After tragedy, Arizona eyes more gun rights

'I don't think it really changes anything,' GOP state lawmaker says of shooting

Brilliant! If only AZ had even fewer gun control laws this whole tragedy might never have happened...

Arizona will prove to be a test case for wild west gun laws and a modern economy can coexist in a large state. The people of Arizona deserve to set their own laws when it comes to this and they deserve the consequences, whether they be good or bad (or both).

Bright, well motivated 12 year olds have commanded men. Admiral Farragut commanded a prize ship when he was a 12 year old midshipmen, and that wasn't considered particularly exceptional at the time. We turn our children into sheep, by careful design, by starting their lives off with a multi-decade prison sentence called school [and I say this as a former public school teacher], but historically, well motivated 12 year olds with their lives and the lives of their loved ones on the line can are capable of things we can barely imagine.

For a horrific modern day example, consider African child soldiers. Many of them are, as a result of their tragic circumstances, mature and hardened warriors with, in many cases, years of combat experience and training. In a combat situation I'd trust my life to a platoon of them rather than a lot of adults I've known.

If our children are barely distinguishable from ADHD ferrets with a lapdog entitlement complex, it's because we make them that way.

DON'T PANIC

putting together gun easy than putting together sentence?

a clip could easily be assembled by anyone with a modest amount of common sense.

If you look at gun control laws by state, you'll find many more with tougher laws then AZ.

Yet people still manage to injure and kill others in those so called 'tougher states.'

I say this as someone who does not want to give up my own guns — but who believes that with rights come responsibilities. Yes, liberty is precious. But so is life. It should not be so difficult for men and women of good will and good heart and sound mind to find the right balance between the two.

Kind of sounds like a buddy of mine who said, "I don't mind if they wiretap and search without warrant, kidnap or torture. I mean, they're only doing it to the bad guys, right?"

the Second Amendment was made obsolete the moment we had a standing Army and no longer need to call up the militia.

The militia isn't necessarily a military unit. It could be something as simple as dad taking his son out to shoot quail and grouse. However, it's a lot more effective when it's several members of the community meeting to practice military tactics and shooting long distances with large caliber semiautomatic rifles.

A group of men READY to provide a common defense is all it really is. The U.S. military is nowhere near large enough to defend this whole country without our help. We have a pretty large country if you haven't noticed!

Let's play a game here.

You can pull THREE laws out of your magic genie bottle that would've stopped this thing from happening. GO!

You're right guns are dangerous regardless of laws.

No, it's people with guns. Not to mention a culture that celebrates guns, violence and just enough puerile idealism to think that celebrating weapons that are designed to kill somehow protects freedom. And of course people who hold to that naiive idealism, despite story after story of shooting carnage in the evening news that says quite clearly: you're wrong.

What utter vacuous #######.

This is one of the stupider arguments gun freaks make. In case you have not noticed, there are not border check points, etc between states. It is rather like a chain, no stronger than the weakest link!
