; Hi everybody!

Ok, since I'm also a part in the waiting game, I'd like to plan our wedding (details, place, decorations, etc, etc, etc) in the mean time.

However, I'm caught in the middle when it comes to the actual wedding date we have in mind.

This is my situation.

I am a late October filer, and Aaron and I would like to get married one year after he proposed me, on August 28th.

But since things are moving so slow, we just hoping to get married on this date.

The issue is, is that he and I like to get married in Vegas. With just the two of us and his parents. OUR REAL WEDDING DATE is 11-11-11.

This is because:

1. My oldest sister just got her first baby and she and her husband just bought their dream house. Financially they won't be able to fly to the US from the Netherlands.

2. My twinsister is in a clinic for help for her CD. Compulsive .. Disorder. She has to stay there for 6 months. I'd like for her to focus on herself first.

3. My fiance's company is located up north (PA) for 2 years, he is from Texas. He moved there November 2009 and is staying there for an other year (Dec,2011).

4. His house in South Texas got destroyed my hurricane Rita/Ike. His house was struck down to the ground my prisoners this year and he is planning on rebuilding it this summer or so.

So we have to fly from Pittsburgh to his home (Texas) just for the wedding if our REAL wedding would be in August.

So the reason he and I want to have our REAL WEDDING is that he lives in PA still, and we want to get married when our house is build, so we won't have to fly over just for us to spend our big day with our family and friends. That's why we want to wait til November, when our house will be rebuild and my family is prepared to come over.

Would it be a problem for me to Adjust Status/AOS, when Aaron and I just have a small wedding in Las Vegas first. So I have time to adjust, and we both have time to work on our house and have enough time to plan a BIG WEDDING for over 250 guests?

What if the interview would ask me: why did you have a small wedding? You just want to live here? Would the interviewer get suspicious because of our little wedding in Las Vegas?

I just want to have enough time to plan a wedding. This is going to be the biggest day in our lives. And I don't want our big day be dependant because of our 90 days after we got my visa.

What is your opinion??????? Or am I just scared to get denied just because of that? And are there other couples who are planning to do the same (small wedding first, adjust and then plan the real wedding?)

Thank you for your reply

Do NOT book anything.

Getting married in Vegas is a good idea. Married is married, you do not have to have a big wedding to meet USCIS requirements

We had a VERY small wedding and it wasn't an issue.

You do not have 90 days to plan your wedding after you get your visa. After your visa is issued, you have 6 months to travel to the US (in this time you could be planning your wedding with a set date in mind) then after you arrive in the US, you have another 90 days to finalize plans and get married. If you look at it that way, you gave 9 months to plan your wedding - 6 months to travel to the US after your visa is issued and then another 90 days once you enter

Good luck

Of course. It's very common to have a small wedding (even just a ceremony at the courthouse) to satisfy the 90 day requirement and then to later on have a bigger wedding with family and friends. As long as you get legally married within those 90 days, it doesn't matter. For the big wedding plans, don't book anything you can't back out of.

; Thank you for yalls reply, and oh no, we won't book anything yet because of the insecurity level of the K1 process.

We just have those plans in mind :innocent: ..

We'd rather to have our REAL BIG WEDDING in August, but because of the points 1,2,3,4 I posted above, we'd like to have our real wedding in November. It's better and less stressy for us.

So, for what I understand. It would not be a problem for us to have a real small wedding first for the both of us in Las Vegas?

I hope so, that would make me feel a lot more chillaxed :D ...

; and I know that I have 6 months to travel to the US.

When we get our NOA2, and when we received our interview date, he and I will go together to my interview in the American Consulate in Amsterdam.

Hopefully, I'll receive my visa in hand after 5 to 7 work days & Aaron and I will be leaving Holland as soon as possible because I cannot wait to be with him again.

Although, I'm going to see him every 2 months in the US during our petition, I'd like to adjust when I arrive there and take the time to plan our real wedding in November, 2011.

:innocent:

Married is married. You can have your wedding with 3 people or 300. You are not any less married if you have a small wedding

good luck

Thank you for your reply

You should not even consider marriage and the date until you are physically here in the US. You can wish for your date and if you are here then fine but if you miss the date, will you not get married?

In International Relationships involving Immigration you do not have any control over dates. You can only hope but not be disheartened if you wishes don't come true.

; Like I said: We just have this date in mind and I know that we can miss our date. But ofcourse we will set up an other date, it all depends of the interview and for me to enter the US. I am aware of that. I am just hoping, nothing more and I won't be disheartened if we miss the date. We just have to sit and wait, nothing more, but I also hope for the best..(L)

As long as whatever date you have in mind falls within the 90 days, it doesn't matter whether it's small or huge.

Thank you & thanks for all yalls reply.

I think I got the answer I was looking for :D An other happy VJ member

We're still planning our big wedding! lol

I just wanted to add, keep in mind that you cannot leave the country (you can leave, but you won't come back) until after you are married, file for AOS, and get a temporary travel document called Advance Parole or the Greencard in hand. Your timing sounds like you understand this (August to November) but be prepared for some limbo time before you marry and after... it takes about 3 months to get the AP document after you file for AOS. Good luck!

; Yes, I am aware of the fact that I can't travel before I have AOS/AP/green card. But that's not what I'm worried about =) thanks for the advice though. My family is coming over to the US in NOV,2011. I don't have a reason to leave the US, because my "second" and big wedding will take place in Texas. :)
