Hello All!!

Back with another question....

I have read conflicting information about getting a police certificate for K1 Beneficiary. I know that we have to get it for any place he lived since age 16 but I am confused on whether it is if he lived there for more than 6 months or more than a year?

My fiance lived in Ivory Coast (his country of nationality) for 7 months when he was 16.

Will he need a police certificate from Ivory Coast?

Thank you for all your help!

Laura

ps, This may be a REALLY dumb question BUT...how do we find out which consulate abroad would process his visa?! He lives in Mali but is an Ivory Coast citizen. I know Dakar, Senegal processes visas for Mali but I don't know who does it for Ivory Coast. Where can I find this information?

From the travel.state.gov website

Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for 6 months or more since age 16 (Police certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older)

He'll need an Ivory Coast police certificate

Good luck

The part that confused me about police certificate requirements is the wording here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police

An applicant must obtain a police certificate from the local police authority:

IF you…

have been living in your country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months

AND… you are 16 years old or older

The whole "at their current residence" is confusing. He lived in the country of his nationality at age 16 for 7 months but it is not his current residence since he now lives in another country.

Will his interview be held in his country of residence or his country of nationality??

Thanks!! :star:

I should have been more clear. He lives in Mali but is not an official resident or whatever, like he has no papers except for his Malian ID. But I don't think that equals residency.

He has a Cote d'Ivoire passport as this is his nationality.

Ughh this is soo confusing! I just want to know if we'll be going to Senegal (which is where they send Malins) or if we'll go to Cote d'Ivoire based on his nationality! :crying:
