Original documents at interview

Hi everyone,

I'm waiting to hear back from NVC regarding our interview date and in the meantime have been reading others' accounts of their interview experiences. This concerns me: a number of members repeatedly mention being asked by the interviewer to hand over original documents (birth, marriage, divorce certificates) but why would we have the originals on us? Just before Christmas, I had submitted the online DS-260 form and mailed all of my originals to NVC as per the instructions. Won't those originals be forwarded to Montreal and in the hands of the interviewer at the time of the interview? Am I missing something?

Some consulates give you an option to scan and email documents to NVC, if you did this, then bring originals to the interview for inspection.

I beleive Montreal Canada, and Guangzhou China, offer an electronic document process at NVC stage.

I already mentioned that I've sent my originals to NVC--I don't have any of them. And yes, although Montreal has an electronic process involving the DS-260, we still had the snail mail our DS-230, Affadavit of Support and all requested originals to the NVC.

Can somebody who has already gone through the Montreal interview process please respond.

Anything you send to USCIS or any related agency should be a copy or the second of two or more originals. Don't take the chance that someone will lose your important documents. If they need to inspect further they can see the originals at the interview as they have asked.

I'm CR1, not K3. No form G-884. I did read my instructions carefully and as required, mailed in ORIGINALS of all certificates to NVC. An agent at NVC has already told me that I did everything the right way and that our documents are being processed at this time. We should be getting news of an interview date very soon.

No, the USCIS received photocopies. The NVC demanded originals. I guess I need to order originals of all of our documents. Great. Please, can somebody (CR1) who has gone through the NVC process RECENTLY please respond to my query.

WRONG.

They are dealing with NVC, not USCIS.

This has to do with NVC process for a CR-1, for the majority of countries, you send ORIGIONAL DOCS to NVC at this stage, they will be returned at visa interview.

Obtain the applicant's required civil documents. This process may be lengthy and could be subject to specific in-country local requirements. To review specific requirements by country click Reciprocity by Country. Submit the applicant's original civil documents.

What happens to my documents? You will receive the original documents at the time of the visa interview.

If you did not participate in the Electronic processing, you do not have to worry about bringing origionals to the interview.

You did correct, no worrys, the leter telling you to bring Origionals to interview has to do if you participated in the optional Electronic processing at NVC for Montreal.

Yep, for the most part I try backing up answers with links to the information rather than firing from the hip. Though I still sometimes put foot in mouth.
