Me and my boyfriend, applied for the K1 but we are not engaged yet. We just want to get married at the court house to be able to live togther, and we will get engaged and organise a traditional wedding at our own pace. Which means we will probably get engeged by the end of this year and get married at church and in family in 2012.

But we are wondering if it is going to be a red flag during the interview if I have no engagement ring.

what's your opinion?

I don't know that you have to show an engagement ring, as many couples don't worry about that these days. But you do have to prove that you have met i the last 2 years and that you are definitely in a relationship. ANd you do have to marry within 90 days of your arrival here in the US. You can have a more formal wedding later that's not an issue just know that you have to prove your relationship and you will marry when you get here within 90 days on your K1 visa.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month

it is a regular question at the interview - "do you not have a ring?"

however, I am told it is not a show stopper.

just remember, a K1 is for a finance therefore you are engaged.

I flew over to Russia at Christmas to bypass this problem and also

spend time with my honey and some kids that she supports in one of the

orphanages. My suggestion, get a ring, even if it is not the ideal one.

most K1s end up having 2 weddings - one legal to satisfy USCIS and timelines

an one realist one -0 that can be planned and done correctly.

if only USCIS could keep to timelines, we could do both in one cermony.

thanks for your quick replies.

We meet all the requirement except the fact that we are not actually engaged yet.

I will probably wear a cheap ring then, and truly do it later as we first planned.

We just liked the idea of a proposal out of the blues, and not just before to send out the K1 application (that sounds less romantic to us :) )

Hi,

Me and my wife weren't officially engaged either when we started the process. If you are going to have your fiancé visa interview in Paris, they don't really care about that. They just make sure you met and the relationship is genuine.

I think you won't have a problem at all.

We planned the same way for the wedding. We had the official courthouse wedding to get the paperwork going and we will plan a ceremony with our families later.

Good luck on your journey

Bruno
