If it's accepted, you'll receive I-797 (which is NOA1). Your case number will be on it.

Mine started with WAC (California) and has 10 numbers that follow.

so that is for certain the case number used throughout the whole visa process?

no, that is the number used throughout the PETITION process... once the case moves to the Consulate it will be given a NEW number... this is not assigned until after the petition has been approved and the case file has been sent to NVC

YMMV

She will have the WAC number until she gets her NOA2. Once the petition is forwarded to the NVC, the petition will receive a new case number and be forwarded to the embassy in her country. After NVC, that WAC number no longer applies. The new number is what she will use for the rest of the process.
