What exactly is the definition of a very large age difference in Vietnam to the US consulate in HCMC? 10 years? 15 years? 20+ years? My friend wants to introduce me to a relative of his in Vietnam who is 12 years younger than me. I see an 8-15 year difference as being not common, but not uncommon among Vietnamese I know in the US.

My wife is eight years younger than me, and it wasn't a problem. Then again, she's in her 40's and I'm in my 50's.

Generally, the younger the beneficiary is, the more of a problem a substantial age difference will be. Most VN married couples don't have a large age difference, but it's not uncommon to occasionally see married couples with an age difference of 10 years or more. Then again, most VN families don't marry off their teenage daughters to middle aged men. If she's in her mid 20's or older then I doubt a 12 year difference would be much of a problem.

I am 15 years older than Thuy and that was never mentioned or even hinted at in the process. As Jim said its not as much about the age difference but more the compatability... I met a guy waiting for his wife outside Thuys english class last week.. he was obviously in his late 60's... His wife from China appeared to be mid to late 20's at the oldest... IMO that would need to be a red flag if ever there was one... Others here would argue that age plays no role in love...

12 years should not be a problem... but what strikes me as odd is that you are contemplating filing for a visa for someone you have yet to meet... I understand looking into the future and planning ahead, but one huge red flag at HCMC is rushing things...

I'm not contemplating a visa for somebody I've never met. I just wasn't expecting it to be this difficult to bring a spouse or finacee into the US. With so much proof demanded by the US consulate in HCMC and all the horror stories I've read here, I'd like to know if I even have a chance at the US consulate in HCMC since they seem to reject applications for trivial reasons. I see no point in pursuing anything if the US consulate is just going to deny it in end.

I definately wouldn't rush anything. She would be around 24-26 if things worked out at the time of any visa filing.

Tell the CO "Have you ever heard of Viagra/Cialis? Hello! Thanks for caring for my sex life but I'll be just fine"

Two people with the same age will cheat the immigration system the same chance like a couple 30 years apart. It just looks better at first glance.

My wife is almost 30 years older than me and she passed on her first interview!

Just remember, life over there in VN is NOT real! Your money will be worth a LOT less once you get back over here. Back to reality, cowboy!
