Well then,

bears and cougars and sharks kill too, all instinct.

So perhaps it is time to admit that neighbour's pit-bull (bred and raised and trained by humans) is just an equivalent of a poorly serviced gun (in the hands of the same neighbour) or a good gun in the hands of a drunk.

Does it make sense then to use pit-bull scare to defend guns?

IMO, you are afraid of pit-bulls and thus you have a strong instinct to do away with them. That's human instinct. When we are afraid, we kill.

You can bet your ####### I will generalize when it comes to pit bulls. They have mauled people (children, old people, etc..) more than a few times up here. A few good pit bulls doesn't make up for what that breed has done over all to when it comes to killing people...especially children...who tend to be their #1 victims. I have no pity and/or mercy on that breed. Those dogs were bred for fighting...and instinct rules more often than not.

The attacks I know about in this area were by dogs described as loving family pets by their owners prior to the attacks. Instinct is very powerful in directing a dog's behavior. And the instinct to kill has been selectively bred for in this breed!!

If we were to look at research we would find there are other breed which are just as likely too act in such a way, the unique thing about Pits is how deadly they are when they attack, rather than bit the leg their weight can pull a person to the ground enabling fatal wounds.

The same effort exerted by say a smaller dog would not have the fatal results.... and so no news story.

So we have two concerns when it comes to pits, likelihood of attack, and efficiency and determination in their attack.

A contributing artificial factor is "owner".

Yeah I am generalizing and stereotyping but: Pit owners tend (more so than others) to put these dogs in environments where socialization is minimal, fenced in cages and attached to chains for 95% of the time. This aggravates aggressiveness in some breeds.

Great, so you kill all the pit-bulls.

Then all the rottweilers.

Then all German shepherds. (Which are awesome, intelligent breed, btw).

And where do you stop killing? At yorkshire terriers?

So, back to the OT. Do you think existence of pit bulls justifies carrying concealed weapons?

The good pits I knew were well socialized, kind animals that were never trained for fighting. One managed to get lost (ran off) and was found by a family with kids. She (the dog) hopped into bed to sleep with one of the young daughters. She stayed with them for about a week, until they found the owner. Of course, this was many years ago, but it shows you that danger from a particular dog comes from their character and the way they were trained, probably more than the breed. But of course, a pi-bull, if attacks, is very capable of killing. Thing is, ANY dog should be trained in a way that they never attack unless their "family" is attacked and needs protection.

Oh, and most murderers are described by their parents as very nice humans incapable of violence. I would not trust what the owners say about their dogs.

lol...I live in rural Alaska (Dillingham)...we have bears (brown bears) walking through our yard time to time during the summer. Last time I checked, my neighbors weren't raising bears, sharks, and/or cougars. Yes those animals/fish do attack people. But I don't actually know of anyone raising them as pets...do you ?

As far as I know humans did not breed bears to kill...it's a natural thing for them. Pit Bulls were bred to kill. Read up on them sometime when you get the chance.

That pic down below was taken less than a half mile from my wifes place of work. Bears are a common thing here...yet when they climb up our porches which they tend to do from time to time...we off them.

Okay, we are getting somewhere :)

1. You don't want to kill pitbulls. You just want them to not be kept next to where you live.

2. When you are afraid of something (a bear), you want to kill it.

1) No. I do want to see that breed of dog (pit bulls) exterminated off the face of this planet. And that's a fact.

2) Yes. We do kill bears that hang around our yards for the fact if we don't, they tend to eat people from time to time. Instinct.

Real men do not prove their manhood by abusing women, children or animals. Neither do they find humor in crude jokes about same!

Who joked about abusing women children or animals? I don't see where I made a joke about the child that was killed either. My post did not make any mention of the tragedy in this thread. Read it again.

So your post was just some random musing about pit bulls and guns that had no relation to the topic being discussed and just coincidentally happened to get posted there! :wow:
