HI,

I am new to this website and appreciate any feedback on my question.

I am a Canadian citizen living in Korea and my husband is a US citizen stationed with the military in Korea. We are eligible for DCF for my Immigration process at the Seoul-USA Embassy.

Can anyone help me with the Criminal background check required for application? I have lived in one city in Canada and the past year in Korea. I have obtained a Korean National Police (KNP) background check.

I am wondering if I need a local Police Check from Canada or the RCMP fingerprint check?

Thanks!

Because you aren't in Canada currently I believe you will have to do the finger print one. You would have your prints taken at a local institution and they will send them to the RCMP it takes a few months and they will return your papers to you once the check is finished.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Moving this to the DCF forum. "Effects of Major Family Changes..." forum has mostly to do with things like divorce on removal of conditions. Which is not your case.

Take care of where you post.

correct, I did my rcmp prints from the usa last year and did this procedure. You will call a local police station and tell them you are looking to get fingerprints done for immigration. In most cases they will have someone there and if you are local they sometimes do it for free (yay)

You will then take the fingerprints and a cover letter (request letter) stating your reason for fingerprints, your name, sex, date of birth, mailing address etc.

Here is the link for the rmcp http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm

If you are OUTSIDE OF CANADA :

contact the nearest police force which offers fingerprinting services. The RCMP will accept fingerprint forms from foreign countries that contain the following:

•rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink

•full name, date of birth and sex of the applicant

•the name and address of the police agency

•the signature of the official taking the fingerprints

NOTES :

•Canadian embassies and consulates may not have adequate resources or facilities to provide this service.

•The ability to submit fingerprints electronically to the RCMP is not currently available outside Canada

Thanks.

I did get my fingerprints taken by the Korean National Police (KNP) and sent in my application to the RCMP. They e-mailed me today saying I had to re-submit my fingerprints as they were denied (no reason why).

It was extremely difficult to obtain the prints from the KNP as they made a huge fuss about it for a couple weeks and then made me promise not to tell any other expats I received them there. I highly doubt they will perform the fingerprints again. Anyone who has lived in Korea knows how difficult the simplest tasks are here.

I hope someone on this board has been through the same situation and can tell if the local Canadian check was approved.

If you have no record then a Canadian wide check will work , I just do not know how you will get it.

would it might be easier for you to perhaps do it on your next trip to canada to get either the RCMP check or local police check done? there are some local police stations that will do it for you in 10 minutes... sounds like you have reasons to visit the US and canada on that trip anyways!
