This was on the Diane Rehm show this morning. Very interesting part of American history.

Daniel Rasmussen: "American Uprising"

Two hundred years ago this month, hundreds of slaves along the Mississippi River set out to conquer New Orleans. They were willing to die rather than continue the grueling labor on their masters' sugar cane plantations. This makeshift army was ethnically diverse, politically savvy, and highly organized. And for two days they staged the largest slave rebellion in U.S. history. But unlike the uprisings of Nat Turner and John Brown, most people have never heard of the slave revolt of 1811. That fact prompted an undergraduate student at Harvard to find out why. The story of America's largest slave revolt…and the reasons it has been largely forgotten.

You can listen to the audio here.

Holy #######.

And this is why we need the 2nd Amendment, to protect our cities and towns and suburbs and villages and trailer parks from our own fellow citizens who decide to attempt to "conquer" them.

Those slaves felt victimized, no doubt - and they were. After all, they were slaves. There is little question that this feeling of victimization led to this revolt and this attempt at conquest.

So what is happening today? Both political parties are creating, through the power of rhetoric, groups of people who feel victimized for their own reasons. It is just a matter of time before food stamp recipients or paranoid delusional anti-census freaks decide to attempt a conquest of their own. And when that time comes, it is the Second Amendment that will stand between the crazed hordes and liberty.

If you can, listen to the audio. Some of the more chilling details is that when the revolt was squelched, 100 slaves were beheaded and their heads were stuck on poles. One of the leaders of the revolt had his limbs cut off and then was burned alive. These slave owners, many of them were considered southern gentlemen, but they acted so barbarically.

I can't listen to the audio and your description does sound barbaric, but lest we forget... they were trying to conquer NO.

If a ChiComs conquest force showed up on the Left Coast today, I don't think anyone would invite them to tea. Well, except for the hippies.

I hear they have exceptional green tea, which goes well with granola.

It's a good thing you no longer live in California. You're surrounded by patriots in God's own country (Arizona, not Israel) now. Which is a good thing, because you can do no harm there.

I'm saving up to buy me some spurs and a 10 gallon hat so I can fit in.
