Hello everybody,

I am new to this site, and hopefully I can learn a lot here. I am originally from Nigeria, and i received my temporary green card last November, but I have not been able to find work at the moment. Taxes season is upon us and now i am worried because I feel I have to pay taxes show the INS that I am not a burden on society. My wife works, and she want to file taxes with me as a dependent. Is this a good a good idea, and will it affect her in any way?

Your not a dependent, you will file joint taxes as married filing joint - you will show no income. Your wife will get back a bigger tax return. It will affect her in a good way - getting more money.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

I am a Citizen of the United States of America. 04/16/13

You do pay taxes already, like sales tax. Income tax is a tax on income, since you have none, there is nothing to tax. It doesn't mean you are a burden to society as long as you don't ask society to pay you with welfare, etc. As Inky says, you will file a married tax return, and your wife will pay less income tax because she supports you. You must say you are married on your tax return. You're fine... the economy is tough right now. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
