So still new still trying to figure everything out, working on the first package with Fiance in PA..so looking ahead..

Interview will be in Montreal correct? and the medicals you do are a couple weeks in advance?

Will my children be required to have medicals? (5 and 9) attend the interviews? will my fiance attend the interview?

Much Thanks

Tammy

Moving to Canada forum..

If children are immigrating on K-2 visas, then yes they will attend interview, and have medicals.

Medical tends to be handled a week or so before interview.

Montreal or Vancouver depending on where you live in Canada, this is K-1, if Spouse, then Montreal always.

hello - where are you located in Canada? That will determine where the interview is. I believe the answer is yes to medicals and attending the interview for both children (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You fiancé is not required to attend the interview, although he can for moral support. Many folks have not had their fiancé attend (due to work or scheduling or whatever) and it's fine. How it works for Canadians seem more relaxed them for some other countries - perhaps because we're in clsoer proximity and have the ability to visit our significant others more often.

Depending on where you are - you will be able to schedule your medical once you have Package 3 and before the interview...there are several p

Agreed...children will need to have medicals and be at the interview. (Why? I do not know but they do, they didn't even ask my son anything).

Having your fiance there could be helpful and definitely for support but It is not required. Mine did not come with us and it was not a problem.

Medicals and interviews are usually within a month of each other.

Good luck

Thanks Guys just trying to figure everything out and plan in advance. and budget..

Obviously there is the inital fee when you do the i-129 $400+ and the medicals appear to be around $300 each (so about 1000 there) and i think theres a big fee with the adjustment of status around 1000? (is that each or total)

Where else can we expect hundreds of dollars?

Im kinda bummed my wedding budget will be minimal after the immigration bills..lol can we register there? haha

For the medical you need 3 passport photos of each person.. thos run kind of pricy too sometimes!

Hi Tammy,

Unfortunately immigration does have a heavy price tag - but I REALLY like your suggestion of 'registering' with USCIS for the wedding gifts  !

The other costs to consider are transportation to and from either Montreal/Vancouver and accommodation while there for the interview. Also, if you need to travel to get the medical done and aren't combining it with the interview visit then there will be transportation costs involved there as well. You will also all need passports and long form copies of all birth certificates (listing parents names) and you will require a police record check, the price of which varies from nothing to around $30 (there isn't a standard fee so each office charges something different). If you or the children require any of the necessary vaccinations have them done at the health unit or your doctor's office before hand as they will probably be covered by Provincial health insurance that way. The cheapest part of the whole process will actually be when you and the children cross the border - each will pay a $6 fee (unless it has increased now to $7) for the I-94 that is stapled in your passports. (If you fly, the cost of the I-94 is actually included in the air fare but then you do have the air fare to consider). Guard the I-94s with your life because the replacement costs are a heck of a lot more and you do need them to apply for the green cards.

Good luck. You both will have time to save up for many of these costs as they are associated with the 2nd phase of the process which occurs after your US fiance's petition is approved and everything moves from the US to the appropriate US Consulate in Canada.

(Much further down the road - approximately 2 years after your green cards are approved - you will also have to apply to 'Remove Conditions" on your 2 year green cards and those fees are also several hundred dollars - but you have several years before you need to worry about that - just be aware that it is in the future. )

Thanks guys its just all so overwhelming right now. Its nice to not have any expensive surprises etc. The fact the kids come with me to the interview was kind of a shock. Montreal is only 3-4 hours away but who knows what my 4 yr old will say..i can see a serious toysrus trip after for best behaviour..and ill def see if my fiance can join us.

its the medicals x3 but the $50 mail fee and i guess they wont mail all 3 for 50..lol that gets me...

and i got passport photos for the g-325 done so can i use the extra for theset of 3 ill need or do they all have to match? the place today i asked about the 3 and they only sell in 2s so thats 28 x3 there..lol the little stuff is annoying..

what do they do at the medical? how invasive is it? i hate drs..

Montreal is quite boring for a children, mine was running around hiding under tables and constantly staring out the window , he also "pretended" to read a bunch of booklets (he cannot read yet).

The mailing fee for the medical is stupid so I decided to pick mine up a few days later due to being only an hour away.

At the medical the do a chest xray (for you not children) blood work (for you not children) , they check your lungs, heart, eyes, mouth, and then the doctor touches your stomach. then a nurse comes in does a breast exam and peeks at your groin area. The children will get a much faster look over more like a regular check up at your family doctor. They will go over immunizations and that about wraps it up.

Agreed - the medical will be easier then your average check-up at your regular doctor - you can search the Cdn forum for recent reviews.

There are indeed a lot of expenses involved in this K1 process and then multiplied with children. I have just 1 daughter and yes it was pricy. All told we figure we've spent about 4-5k since the start of this.

- K1 app fees

- Cdn passports for everyone (my daughter had never had one before)

- medical fees

- fees to acquire Cdn long birth certs, my now husband's long lost birth cert from SC and the divorce decree from his short marriage back in his 20's

- hotel and travelling fees for the Montreal interview

- moving fees - truck rental etc...

- AOS fees for us both (full price x 2 since my daughter was 16)

- 2 yrs later the removal of conditions fee x 2

- Citizen ship x 2 (since my daughter was over 18 when I am now applying for citizenship she's on her own app)

It's better to know about these fees ahead of time - we've had a few people on VJ who dont plan ahead and then they're shocked by the fees....don't be that person :)

I would agree that I would have probably had a fancier wedding had I not just finished spending gawd knows how much moving here...but I still had a beautiful wedding, you can do a lot even on a limited budget.

In montreal I never had a groin check or breast check. Just checked my throat stomach and my reflex, had an xray and blood taken, then a short eye chart thing to test vision. In the office I was asked some questions from the medical forms ie - are you on medication, have you taken perscription drugs without a perscription etc etc.

See..and I thought I remembered having a quick breast exam by the nurse and some poking on the lower abdomen (no pap smear or anything else though). Frankly after having had a baby this was small potatoes.

Just wanted to add that the kids will need to get the hep b vaccine before the medical, at least have it started. The US gives it to the kids much earlier then in Canada. You may have to go to the Health Unit to get the pediatric version since most Doctors only carry the one version for 12yrs and up. You may have to pay for it also since you are getting it before its actually scheduled for kids in Canada.

K-2 kids under the age of 14 are not required to attend the Interview. Now things could of changed since we did our interview but when you get packet 3 you can email them to double check. That's what I did, and only had to bring my older 2 14&16 at the time.

Also make sure you get the consent letter to move the kids to the US.

Right - must have that(or equivalent) when you're bringing your children from a previous relationship. There are many of us who didn't have contact with the ex and we've gone through that situation as well.
