How long apart?

I've gone through two or three periods of six months without seeing my SO. Each time we went that long it became more difficult to bear. I've noticed that when we go that long without seeing each other we bicker over the silliest things. I guess we become moody and depressed.

I went this past november and again in december, and boy do I wish I had the money to afford a monthly trip but I certainly do not. I don't know when will be the next time I'll go. I would like to hold off until our interview but without an approval in sight who knows how long it'll be before we get an interview date. Now I'll have to scrounge for pennies so that I could go once more and soon!

I go out with family and friends to distract myself but secretly I daydream about how the day would have been if my SO were there too. Going to parties alone...ugh, the worst, especially when you see other couples.

My only relief is that someday soon we will be together permanently and we'll be able to close this four year long distance relationship chapter, and start a new happy life together.

Let's all hang in there because one day things will get better ;)

I agree with everything you've said, couldn't have put it better myself. We met in Berlin almost three years ago and we just want to start our life together!! It seems like the end is nonexistent but let's hope the uscis gets it's act together so everyone can get their good news.

We met in person for the first time in June 2010, then late August, then January. Our last visit until he moves here will probably be March or April. So the longest we have been apart is about 4-5 months. It feels like forever at the time, but I know we are very lucky to be able to see each other so often, when others have to wait much longer.

Very cool thread!

We started talking online in 2002, chats, emails, IMs for years, and met in May 2009. Together again for a month when I flew to Venezuela (Dec 2009-Jan 2010), 2 months when she came back to the US (Jul 2010-Sep 2010), and she is here currently for another 2 months (Dec 2010-Feb 2011). Our longest time apart was 7 months (if you don't count the 7 years it took us to finally get together :P)

Stay strong everyone :D

I don't understand your couple? So your fiancee is already here in the USA visiting you. If you guys want to get married you already can. And then you can petition for a green card for her.

So then what is the point you submit a K-1 petition for her when she is already here? Isn't it a waste of money?

We only text each other in the mornings and evenings (other times, either I am asleep or he is..)

Occasionally, we call each other..

does this mean I don't have strong feelings for him? I LOVE him a LOT, it's just I don't know what to talk about with him on a daily basis (through skype, for instance - although, he doesn't have internet at home, so he would have to go to the nearest internet club)? We know what each of us doing by means of text messaging.

Initially it was a little awkward to skype a couple times per day, I'm just not normally a chatty kind of person. But, I've found that my fiancée and I end up having some very interesting conversations that just crop up out of nowhere. So, we don't mind just "hanging out" on skype without a lot to talk about. Sometimes we'll even do chores or other things with skype still on.

Hey everyone,

I just said goodbye to the one I love after a amazing 3 weeks together. The plan is that I wont see her for nearly 6 months. We both are finishing school and she has a lot of wedding planning to do. We're currently in the K1 proces (September 2010 filers) aiming that our wedding will be on Augst 6. 2011 and me leaving to be with her in July.

Thank you :)

I could not see my then fiance, now husband, for six month due to refuse entry by CBP. It was tough but hang in there. My husband always told me that it seemed long but it worth it when you look back a year from now.

I agree.....

I would love to be one of the people that gets to go for three months at a time, or go wait it out until he gets his visa, but my job would never allow me to do that. I'm lucky if I get two weeks off a year......-_-

That is your opinion. It's harder for some, easier for others.

When we met, my fiancee was deployed in Iraq. So we haven't seen each for 6 months. Then we were together for 40 days. Then he left to a new station and we haven't seen each other for another 1 year. Then we're together for 10 days. Now he is deployed, we are apart almost 2 months now for another 11 months. So yeahhhhh.... waiting sucks, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.:)

I think it is realistic for your wedding date. :) We wish you all the best!!!!

No, because she's here on a tourist visa. Yes, we could get married today. However, since we were engaged months before, having her come here as a tourist with the intention of marrying and adjusting status is visa fraud. It sucks, but this is the right way to do it.

My fiancee came for 2 weeks in France in june to see me, and then we took the plane together back to US, I stayed 3 months and we filled while I was there for the K1 (september fillers). I so wish we would have start the process as soon as I arrived in US in june...but we can't change it.

It is going to be 4 months that we didn't see eachothers, and I plan staying in France during the whole K1 process to be able to answer asap if I receive something.

The longest we were apart so far was for five months and that was torture. It's hard to be away from a love one for any time period, but what has helped to ease our pain a little was being able to see each other through Skype. It wasn't the same as physically being next to each other, but at least we are able to look into each other's eyes through our webcam as we talk and be a part of each other's day to day activities during certain times of the day. Hang in there, the process and wait may be long, but at least in the end of it all, you will be together.

All the best,

Beatrice & Steve

I came back from meeting my girlfriend, now fiance in November 2010. I'm just about ready to file the K1 by the end of the month. I'm realistic in now thinking this will be a long process. Longer than I thought before joining here. My fiances cousin has been helping with some of the documents, and said it should only take a few months. She came here back in 2005, and doesn't know they're much slower now unfortunately. I hope I'm one of the very few lucky ones that it doesn't take that long... We both want to save money, but I can't now count out going to see her for even a week. Especially if this takes at a minimum 6 months. We do e-mail and use Windows Live Messenger when we want, but it's just not the same. I wouldn't change it for anything though.
