Hi there,

Anybody's parents ever make them kneel on rice or rock salt or anything like that? Did it keep you in line? Did it leave any scarring?

Sorry, just doing some research here and am looking for some shared stories.

Thanks!

Not me. But there was a Law & Order SVU episode about it, that's the only reason I've heard about it.

I think it's disgusting behaviour and I doubt it'd work. I can't help but feel like punishment like that makes dangerous or cruel people who don't realise or think, or believe that it's cruel. I think it's almost a type of brain-washing.

I'd be interested to know whether someone who had this done to them, did it to their kids or if it made them less likely to do it.

And yes, i think it is cruel, too!

Not quite on topic, but when my best childhood buddy was young, he would study ants for hours, then pull the legs off of them, put them in water, and watch them sink, si man.

He also used to eat yellow snow.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

If it helps the episode is called "Hothouse". Season 10 episode 12 (or number 214) according to Wiki. Maybe you can go and rent season 10, or maybe it's available on Netflix for you to watch.

Good luck!

That's more creative than my Dad screaming and swearing at me to get the hell to bed when I was a kid.

More fun was when a teacher beat my butt in front of the class with a yardstick or when a gym teacher picked me in the air and shook me for talking in gym class.

Most have left some scars because I never forgot that stuff from 35 to 40 years ago.

Its the same as the "time-out" idea...when I was a kid, about 7-9, it was kneeling on beans (a bag of dried beans). It was never for too long...usually like 5-10 minutes, just long enough to contemplate the error of my ways. I don't think that its cruel....just another form of demonstrating to a child that there are consequences to bad behavior...especially bad behavior after it was repeatedly pointed out as such and I still didn't correct it.

Sorry to hear that, Alien! (F)

Minya, yes, i've heard of the beans. Here is my question: Did it leave any scars? Or say, if it was done to excess, could it leave scarring. Was it something specific from your parents' culture, or just their method.

Sorry for so many questions. i'm working on a story here, just trying to get the details in my mind. (If it is too painful to remember or write about, i will totally understand.)

Thank you all for sharing, all the same.

Also, please know that this is not about judgment... just accurate details. Thanks again.

Actually my mom tried this out when I was 8....nope never worked. I was no angel but not the demon seed either.

I still believe a loving communicative relationship would have worked much better, something I did not have with my mom until much later in life.
