That video and the belt are a lot less damaging than if the kid were to actually be in a gang. I hope it scared the kid enough to not get involved in gangs (or pretend he was, which seems to be the main issue of the video), but who knows if it actually worked. He could have just gotten more defiant later on. I hope not. He has a seemingly strong male figure in his life, something lacking for those who often join gangs.

I do think it's odd to make a video of it, but I read more about it. The nephew had been posting things on his facebook about "dropping bodies" and saying he was a killer. And apparently not in a sarcastic way, to make it seem he was in a gang. He was not only endangering himself by saying those things, but endangering his whole household from potential backlash. His uncle forced him to post the video to his own facebook wall to prove that he was lying about his gangster ways, and then it was copied/dl-d by someone on FB and put on youtube for all to see. The whole situation isn't very normal sounding to most of us, true.

There is very little that is "normal" seeming to us middle class suburban types about these poor urban black families with kids who think they're gang bangers. The disiprin you see here is the best kind of disiprin they're ever gonna get. They don't do time outs in the hood.

Since when do uncles dish out punishment? I make the guy eat that belt if it were me.

When there possibly isn't a father around(gone or passed away), and the kid lives with his uncle?

Probably true. But I find that advocates of corporal punishment love to talk about "time outs" in order to mock any less physical styles of discipline. These are not the only two options. I don't believe in time outs either.

Yeah, it's as if you don't whip the ####### out the kid that you must be a soft touch. I don't buy it. People who solve problems with their fists are just lazy and unimaginative

Good or bad uncle, I don't know. But classy for sure.

It makes a lot of sense - surely the problem with today's gang members is that they weren't beaten enough and exposed to enough violence as children.

I hear ya sis... and fat folks can't have a health problem cuzz they are getting plenty to eat.
