Most of what we have now has nothing to do with "civil rights". The people who supported slavery are still in the Democrat party. They now support illegal immigration and people being enslaved by welfare. If you disagree with them they say YOU are the racist.

They ignore employers that violate wage and hour protections, withholding tax, social security, medicare, OSHA, EEOC and hire illegals to be exploited so they can line their pockets with cash. Democrats pass laws to "protect workers" provided the workers are union white workers, and then look the other way as millions of employers avoid all the human rights laws and equal opportunity laws by hiring unregulated illegals. They then try to make it harder to enforce the law against exploiting humans for money.

Welfare programs simply enslave people to be dependent on politicians for more of the same and we see generation after generation of people who are loyal Democrat voters because without handouts they have no ability to fend for themselves. Is that the American dream? Is that freedom?

I agree with much of what you say. The democrats are pathetic and cheap, the republicans twisted and evil. As to welfare, I am in favor of a 'safety net' of sorts, but nobody should ever get a dime unless they put in the hours doing something productive. Maybe there are a few people so handicapped there is absolutely nothing they can do but for everyone else looking to draw a government benefit they need to be given something to do! Welfare otherwise robs the individual of his dignity and self-respect. Everything needs to be oriented towards motivating people to want to succeed on their own. But a civilized society does not let members of society starve or freeze to death. It also does not condition medical care on an ability to pay. I think some honest, non-partisan dialogue is needed to find the 'common sense' solutions to these problems.

I think one of the huge problems with welfare is it seems conditioned on people NOT working. Rather, I think there should be NO welfare paid unless that person is also working and/or going to school. If a person had a crappy education because their parent(s) were lured into living in subsidized housing, then supplement their income until they imporve their education and/or job skills. Giving someone the equivilent of $3000 per month or more in benefits and then saying "you lose this if you take a minimum wage job" just makes no sense.

I would like to see the government paying for education also. People with college degrees are almost never on welfare. When? It is no guarantee in itself, Russia and Ukraine have a lot of highly educated street people, but together with a thriving economy education is always a good thing. If college isn't for everyone, they pay for trade school. When a person leaves his education, whatever it is, they should have the skills or knowledge to provide for themselves a living wage.

And we need to stop this nonsense of children dropping out of school at age 16.
