Regarding Dr. Lin and "walk in basis from Sunday to Thursday", I just spoke with the good doctor myself. They don't open Sundays any more.

Update: between the time I phoned him and the time we actually got there (about 6 days?), Dr. Lin has now apparently retired!!

Not to worry though, because one floor higher, 4th floor room 401 at 17 East Broadway in Chinatown (Take F train to 'East Broadway ' station), is Dr. Fung Ngan, Tel: 212 406 7379. For the visit and a blood test and 3 vaccines, they have charged my friend $180 total. That's it! I'm not sure if that's just the introductory offer and they'll find other things to call us back about and charge us for later. If not, it was a VERY good deal.

They do walk-ins, open mon to Fri, but we had called ahead anyway to check we could come. If you don't arrive with your money order for $180 in hand, they'll ask you to go pick one up and direct you to the Western Union up the street.

Tiny office, friendly staff, thoroughly fun experience being down in the depths of Chinatown, quick processing.

What more could you ask. If anything goes wrong with the experience, I'll update again here. Otherwise, take it that all went well.

PS. when you arrive on the 4th floor and before you go in, take a quick walk up and down the corridor outside. Very interesting to see all the tiny little medical offices side by side and in other rooms, Chinese guys shaking dice in cups and playing what looked like Mah Jong. Sometimes I LOVE New York!
