Coleslaw - Who'd a Thunk it?

My wife is from Thailand and she works in a major supermarket deli.

Coleslaw was definitely a new food for her and last night she offered

me some with extra helpings of mayo/salad dressing.

Coleslaw has been way OUTSIDE my usual circle of acceptable foods and

I am an American. Go figure. I can't stand the stuff but she seems to love it.

I'm no fan of Coleslaw either and I'm from the south...

I might have to get used to some things that I don't usually eat.. More beefy dressings/etc, as Vanessa has soem of that British blood in her. I can tolerate it somewhat, but not much.. I like my cream gravy damnit! That's the southerner in me!

My husband likes coleslaw too. He even likes me to put it on tacos, which I think is kind of strange.

There are lots of American foods he likes, but when he finds something he likes, he eats it almost exclusively and then gets sick of it. He's been here quite a while, so I can't remember them all, but a few other than the coleslaw tacos are:

steak and cheese subs

chocolate chip cookies

grilled cheese sandwiches

fruit smoothies

rice a roni

caesar salad

I can't think of anything that I also didn't like, but it's the combinations that are different to me. For instance, a sandwich filled with potato, like fries or hashbrowns. He will do that here, I don't do that. In India I had "bread pakora" which is a sandwich filled with an Indian potato filling, then dipped in chickpea flour batter, then fried! A guilty pleasure, and not something I would have thought of - a carb sandwich fried in batter!

Not really surprisingly since in all the Asian countries I have ever been in cabbage was a common food as an ingredient or a main focus. Luckily they kill the taste of cabbage in many ways.

Jon loves chipotle in any form. He was disappointed to learn that they're just smoked jalapenos, because he'd imagined groves of magical chipotle trees.

Pistachio Hagen-Daz ice cream and some enticing but deadly pastries

- she's having a field day since I've been on my diet.

She always offers me some and I politely decline or just take one spoonful.

Been there, done that, but the upside of this is that "stinky fish" is hard to

come by in New York, so she doesn't bother. It's not on her top ten list, LOL

Her culinary tastes are not so hard-boiled/adventurous as some of her compatriots.

In fact there are many things that I have tried or would try that she steers clear of.

One of those is croc meat. I really intended to try it at the Samutprakan Crocodile Farm

but she put the brakes on that one fast! Maybe next time I go to Thailand I'll sneak in

there and have a croc-burger

Flash!

Wife was doing ironing (while I did the dishes)

and she asked me to get her a pepsi from the fridge.

I don't like pepsi but she has a taste for it.

I handed it to her and she said,

"darling, put a little salt in it."

Your wish is my command babe.
