Members,

I really need some help. My son was born in Vietnam and we made him a U.S. passport with a successful CRBA filing. I'm trying to find out what we need to bring, who needs to be there, and how long it takes to get an exit stamp. I'll only have limited time when I return so it needs to happen quickly so I can bring them with me and return to work! My wife (Vietnamese) and I have both tried to calling the Vietnamese Immigration Office and they are short and rude with us. The information is always different and then they hang up when they're finished talking. I don't know who else to talk to about this, so I came here. Please help if you can...

Thanks,

Steven

Unless you plan on filing the CRBA at the embassy in Hanoi, the following link gives the same info for the consulate in HCM:

I've never dealt with the Immigration Office in HCMC. If they are like most bureaucracies in Vietnam then I would plan on going there in person, and bringing some coffee money in case it's needed to grease the machine.

Hi there,

If your son have the vietnamese birth certificate, and his name is register in Household registration book (Ho Khau gia dinh). Your wife can apply the vietnamese passport for your son. It only takes about 2 weeks for the passport, then your son will not need to apply for the vietnamese exit visa when he's leaving the vietnam. It's a lot easier to apply for the passport then the exit visa process. My daughter now have both the vietnamese passport and the U.S. passport.
