I was wondering if there was anyone that new of some trusted money transfer companies so I can send money from the US to the UK and so my husband can send money to me as well..

I have used XOOM to send money to my family in Korea and the Philippines and found it very easy and very reasonable. I think I paid $3.99 for my transfer. It only took one day to receive the money in their bank accounts. Good Luck

Wells is at the receiving end. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Flat $5 is what I was told, no %'s of transaction fee according to the rep.

Western Union by ffar the best option. Also, has more locations than MoneyGram. Bank wires are too expensive and wouldn't do it unless seding alot of money..

WU is a huge publically traded corporation. Each and every time you use WU, you are helping to pay for the CEO's yacht and mercedes benz! Who would want to do that!

Xoom is a GREAT, less-expensive option!

Who cares if the CEO of WU makes money--all that matters is that you get good service, pay a decent price, and you money arrives on time.

And in case you think Xoom is some dinky altruistic company, they are funded by some of the largest and wealthiest venture capitalists in the world that would make the CEO of any large bank look poor in comparison. Grow up.

Bottom line is my wallet: Xoom is cheaper at $7.99 for a flat fee, as opposed to WU's escalating fee's for higher amounts.

It works for us much better than WU.

Go with WU if it works for you! We don't care what you do.

MoneyGram is flawless. I have never used Western Union, but I assume they are too. Never a problem sending $1 - $2000 with MoneyGram.

A much easier solution for the future is to send him an ATM card and he can just go to any local bank to get funds from your bank back here.

Id like to add that I very recently tried to add my wife to my checking account but Bank of America wont let me without her physically in the bank. I tried to get a second debit card and they wouldnt issue it. So I just set up a secondary account and am going to gige her the card. This way I can just put the money in the account and she can withdraw immediately for the cost of the ATM fee ;)

I did the same thing--setting up two accounts and gave her the card on the second account until she was visiting me in the US, and then we went to he bank and had her added to my primary account. It was a little bit of a hassle since she doesn't have a SS#, but they accepted her passport, and now everything is smooth as silk.

Just a couple questions about Xoom (it's the first time I hear about it) does the receiving bank account have to be in US Dollars? And do you have to pay to open an account with Xoom?

Thanks!!

Here is their website. I no longer need it since we are using ATM cards, but it sounds really good. Not as cheap as MoneyGram, but very good overall.

Western Union and Moneygram can be pretty expensive though. I just want to be able to show swapping of money as part of our evidence you know.

Be careful with this, it won't be a problem if the money goes one way (i.e. from US to UK). Money coming the other way can be seen as you being paid off for the visa.

Never thought of it that way. Don't see why it would matter if its a couple hundred here and there.

We both have ATM cards with our BoA account. Just want to know the fees.. Paypal and xoom are looking very good to me right now though :)

Thanks everyone for the help!
