Extend Tourist Visa

The other evening I was at a party in Houston. A friend of my wife(from Brazil but a US Citizen) was throwing the party. Her mother was there visting. She asked my wife how to extend her tourist visa. I sent her the link to the form. Question I have is how successful are people in getting tourist visas extended. The lady is in her 70's but has a house in Brazil but her kids(grown adults) are married to Americans who live in Houston and Maine.

I know of people who have done this, and even "upgraded" them to student visas.

From my limited experience, a one time extension is likely to be approved, especially if she has a reason (new grandbaby, wanting to be there for a graduation etc), but further ones will be difficult.)

Extension of tourist visa is difficult, need to provide a really strong case why extension be granted.

Extension on tourist visa will also create issues next time she would enter the US, most likely she will be questioned at POE for her extension.

With her age and extension she would be viewed as a potential immigration risk.

It does not sound like she has a real reason.

If she has no plans to re visit the US anytime soon, go for it.
