Hi everyone. I'm Matt and I was lucky enough to find this forum about two weeks ago. It's come in handy in completing the I-129F form for my gal's K1 Visa. The form was just sent in last Friday, actually.

My gal's name is Phuong Anh, is 25, has her bachelors, and lives in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She and I met online back in May of 2005 and in person for the first time in paris in October of that year. We spent two romantic weeks together and I flew back to Germany for the holidays, where we had 12 amazing days before she flew back to her home country. She had been in Europe researching Grad Schools.

Our road together has had some bumps, but that is natural in a long distance relationship. NEVER did I think this would happen to me. If anyone had told me it would I simply would have laughed at them. Yet here I am, head over heals with this woman. The chemistry and friendship that we have together is astonishing. I've never felt anything like it.

Phuong Anh speaks better English than most teenagers in the U.S. today. Her accent is minimal and her vocabulary amazing. We have no trouble communicating and she is now doing her best to teach me her language, since there is little I can tach her about mine at this point. She also speaks Japnese and is learning German. This girl is smart. Smarter than me.

I'm flying to Vietnam in May and will spend a week in Ho Chi Minh City, where there will be an official Engagement party. From there she and I will fly to Hanoi for a week and spend time with her grandparents, who are too old to travel, and also see the sights.

We both hope that she is approved before Christmas so that she can be introduced to the family at that time.

Wish us luck!

Matt

P.S. I have photos in the My Photos section.

Thank you, Lynne.

I'd love to hear from anyone who is from Vietnam, or has a bride/husband/fiancee from Vietnam.

By the way, sorry for the bad spelling in my post above. I am unable to Edit it for some reason. Being dyslexic = bad spelling all of the time. :)

Well, you two are cute as pigs in mud! LOL

I never expected an 'online' spouse either, Matt. Welcome to VJ. You probably already know that there is a wealth of info in the guides, FAQ and links. Look there first with questions you may have. Many answers are there.

Look under Regional Forums to find other USC's with Vietnamese fiances. And really, especially for when she gets to the consulate phase of the process, you should seek your advice there. Different countries, different consulates, different CO's, different interview procedures. Get me?

For now, during the initial I-129 steps, you can get good info in the K1 forum. The petitions are generic until they go abroad.

It wouldn't hurt for you to study ahead a bit about Adjustment of Status, either. But don't let that overwhelm you. Just puruse it a bit.
