Hello,

I'm looking into getting a Blackberry. I miss communicating with family & friends in Canada with my cell. I only have a pay-as-you-go right now, but a lot of family/friends in Canada have BBs & its a way I can have fun with my phone again :)

My question, which provider are you with, any pros & cons? I'm trying to find something that's best for international talk as well.

Any opinions?

Thank you!!

AT&T and Verizon both offer Canada talk plans respectively, but you do pay for them AND you sacrifice unlimited nights & weekends on your phone with both providers, though you still get 1,000 for the month.

Which of the two is better, is going to depend on where you are living. Asking friends and co-workers is the best thin to do, as they'll be familiar with the way the service is in the area.

Another option, if it's available in your area, is MetroPCS (www.metropcs.com). For $10 a month added on to some of their plans (which are all flat rate taxes incuded) you can have unlimited international calling and they do offer a couple of Blackberrys of the phones they offer.

Acutally Metro PCS does have the best bang for your buck plan, but looking at the coverage map, it gets kinda shady in my area(outskirts of a small town). I was tempted to go with them, but don't want to get locked in if its going to be crappy reception :(

What I've opted for is to get Skype To Go on an annual plan, and combine that with a domestic US calling plan. The Skype To Go costs me about $140/year (about $12/month) and lets me make unlimited international calls from my cellphone, using only domestic US minutes. My wife uses it to call Thailand, I use it to call my son and parents and friends in Canada, and my 2 children who are in Brazil, and family and friends in Israel. We use it a lot and definitely get more than $12/month worth out of it when compared with adding an international plan to AT&T.

For my son who is studying in Waterloo, I got him a US/Canada Skype To Go plan for about $30/year (that's less than $3/month) and it gives him unlimited long distance dialing within Canada/US (particularly to me in the US).

I have MetroPCS...It is $50 per month with unlimited everything...I've noticed the quality is not as good as ATT but still hasn't been a problem. As Paul mentioned for an extra $10 you get unlimited calling to Canada (it was $5 a few months back)...If you add a second line they remove $5 from the monthly bill so the second line would be $45 / month...

The plan Scandal mentioned also seems very economical...I'm guessing that is an app for $30 a year?

Not sure if you've played around with Skype but Skype Video is extremely easy to use. Just need an internet connection and it is free.

we have Sprint nextel with our Blackberry's .. not sure what the actual cost is because my BIL pays the main plan and we just pay for our phones at about $25/month.. I think a single plan is around 60 bucks or more/month

but the international long distance is quite expensive with it but I just set up a Google voice number and the calls out or incoming don't cost me anything....

I've used Skype on the computer & didn't know you can use it on a mobile!

I'll take a look at it.

The thing that sucks about AT&T & Verizon's "Nationwide plus Canada" plan is they only give you 1000 evenings/weekends mins. No unlimited with those plans....guess you can't have everything, hehe.
