Someone doesn't wake up one morning and spontaneously decide to commit terrorist acts, the resentments are deeply held and go quite far back.

Fight terrorists by all means, but isn't it past time that we took a serious look at our foreign policies and decide whether or not we're actually doing "good" or simply helping ourselves.

Again it sounds like we want to have our cake, eat it and say nuts to the rest of the world.

Agree  With Iran...think 1953 Operation Ajax. Kermit Roosevelt arrives in Iran with secret CIA plan to overthrow Mohammed Mossadegh- Iran's first democratically elected prime minster.

True. And while Iran is now (perhaps rightly) dubbed a 'rogue state' and a sponsor of terrorism, people forget the role we have had in shaping that nation's destiny.

1) We oust the secular government in 1953 and install the ousted monarch (dictator).

2) They oust the dictator in 1979, turning inevitably to religion and nationalism - end up with a theocratic dictatorship.

3) We fund and arm Saddam (another dictator) to wage a massive 8 year war with Iran that kills 1 million + people.

And we wonder why they resent and distrust us?

Yes I feel a good part of the hatred against the U.S. is due to our foreign policy of continuely meddling in the affairs of other countries. Plus having a blind eye to anything Israel does.

It’s a definite problem.

Too late to turn around now - we have to play this out.

Play THIS one out sure, but I'm not about to jump on the bandwagon for more mad imperialist adventures in Iran, Syrian and North Korea.

Pretty much. Most governments take a 'broad canvass' approach to foreign policy (as corporate senior managers to do company strategy). From such a position, you have to wonder whether or not they really appreciate the people it directly affects - and have risen so high in their self-importance that they simply can no longer relate to the experience of the general populace.

And not to forget, Israel has plenty of Nuke in its arsenal, never declared them so what should stop another country to have nuke technology whether as a detterent or for Civilian power plant.

the power plant iran is making can also be used to make nuclear weapons. ;)

treaty iran has signed

wikipedia version

Since very few of the nuclear weapons states and states using nuclear reactions for energy generation are willing to completely abandon possession of nuclear fuel, the third pillar of the NPT provides other states with the possibility to do the same, but under conditions intended to make it difficult to develop nuclear weapons.

For some states, this third pillar of the NPT, which allows uranium enrichment for fuel reasons, seems to be a major loophole. However, the treaty gives every state the inalienable right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and as the commercially popular light water reactor nuclear power station designs use enriched uranium fuel, it follows that states must be allowed to enrich uranium or purchase it on an international market. Peaceful uranium enrichment can arguably be considered a small step away from developing nuclear warheads, and this can be done by withdrawing from the NPT. No state is known to have successfully constructed a nuclear weapon in secret while subjected to NPT inspection.

Indeed. Its been done openly by the US and Russia ;)

And we're now holding the Iranians guilty of "possibly" infringing the treaty which we definitely have. Makes it all a bit meaningless doesn't it. International Law should only apply to people we don't like?
