I don't like the way this looks. They have subs and now missiles that can be launched under water.

Not that we could anyway - not enough money, not enough political support either.

When we're done with Iraq, could just move the troops across the border...

Sure why not. Two wars for the price of one. Delightful. Anything for "Democracy" eh?

Its an apt adjective. An entire domestic/foreign policy strategy based on fear.

Not for democracy - for natural resources. For imperialism. We need to protect our interests.

If you really believe that, how can you condemn terrorism on the basis that is evil and morally unjustifiable.

Imperialism requires a rather amoral stance no?

I condemn the killing of civilians which is what terrorism is about. "Freedom fighters"

become terrorists when they start deliberately targeting civilians.

Yeah and which country has ever attacked a U.S. navy ship and which country's airliner did we shoot down? So based on that who's the threat?

Sure, but that becomes rather shaky once you start framing it in terms of imperialism and the suggestion that anything becomes justifiable when it results in profit and securing natural resources.

Someone doesn't wake up one morning and spontaneously decide to commit terrorist acts, the resentments are deeply held and go quite far back.

Fight terrorists by all means, but isn't it past time that we took a serious look at our foreign policies and decide whether or not we're actually doing "good" or simply helping ourselves.

Again it sounds like we want to have our cake, eat it and say nuts to the rest of the world.
