Hi, all. I have an AOS interview with my husband on February 1st, and I am just wondering if we will be able to receive the documents we submit at interview back from USCIS officers. I saw the flagged post saying applicants are advised to have photocopies of all the evidence of relationships, but I mean are they gonna keep all the photos, rental agreements, phone bills etc? That sounds a little too much to me.

It will be nice if anybody who had AOS interviews can share some experiences here in regard to returning documents. Thanks!!

Yes they will keep it. If you submitted any originals, like Birth Certificate, you can ask for them back, but keep in mind that you are not required to submit originals of those things in the first place.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package

Thank you so much for the quick response!!

Also I forgot to ask, are they gonna keep all the photocopies of submitted documents, too? I am gonna bring photocopies of I-485, RFEs, change of address form etc, and I don't wanna make copies of them any longer if I don't have to...

All the shared experiences will be appreciated!!

The photocopies are meant to be for them to keep while the original copies are for you to be brought to the interview for comfirmation/authenticity.

The original copies are not meant to be submitted rather you are meant to come to the interview with them for confirmation after which, would be given back to you. Any original copies submitted would not be given back to you. I do not know about the birth certificate.

They have to know that what you're submitting is legitimate, so they can ask for originals at the interview (and usually do) but they will only keep the copies for the file. Bring originals and a copy of anything you plan to submit.

Hi, I know it was a while ago both of you replied, but thank you for advices. It's coming up soon, wheee!!

Hi there,

We had our AOS interview yesterday and we have both original and photocopies of all the documents stipulated on the interview notice. We just wanted to have all in the right track so we checked and rechecked before the big date which is yesterday..

But we got surprised the IO never bother to asked all those documents stated in the interview notice, all she asked are a simple question about our relationship and my 1-94.We have evidence as a couples like Health Insurance, house Insurance, bank letter, cards ( wedding card & xmas Cards), letters from our Neighbor, relatives ( brother & aunt's),childhood friend & co-workers that they witnessed our marriage vows, photos ( we travelled together in Asia) but she's not interested I guess to see those documents or any original documents updated like Company letter..oh well at the end, she got interested to see our wedding photo. I felt that it was just a formality to show up and had an interviewed as their job (hehe). Though, pretty sure they already do their homework to checked all those documents before we show up.;-)).

At the end, she told us that she will give us a call within this week if she need anything more from us, otherwise she will approved us. When we reached home, I checked online and it show up we got approved and they order for card reproduction...wahoo!!!

Oh well, it would be good if after the interviewed we heard the word : APPROVED...

Goodluck on your interview!!!

They pretty much gave us our stuff back except for 2 wedding pictures and also the copy of our marriage certificate, for some reason it wasn't in our file.... I think it depends on the officer.. ours was a jerk...

Good luck

Hi, everybody!! So I had an interview yesterday, and my AOS was approved!! I cannot feel comfortable entirely until my actual card arrives, but good bye USCIS for a year and 9 months. Hooray!!

My interview was really easy-going!! I think we were there only for 30 minutes or so. They did took a photocopy of my certified copy of marriage certificate. The interviewer said I really don't need to submit any extra stuff, but he said he would take bank statement with joint account and health insurance info for "just a record."

I think it really depends on your situation and what kind of officer will interview you, but this is what I have experienced at AOS interview. Good luck, everybody!!
