Take out someone's whole family with a motorcycle? It takes minimal effort to aim towards a crowd and shoot indiscriminantly. Many stores have cement barricades to prevent someone from ramming their car through. There's no sure fire way of preventing someone from inflicting harm on others if that is their intent, but make it more difficult to do and minimize the potential lethality through reasonable gun laws, such as background checks, waiting periods, limited number of rounds in a magazine.

there are other things that people could use that do not involve a gun or a motor vehicle....

i was only trying to make the point that there is nothing anyone can do to stop someone that is set on destroying another if that is their intent getting rid of guns will never end the problems of the world from wack jobs

but making sure that we can protect our self makes a lot of sense

anyone that goes or has to go thru gun safety or classes to carry a weapon are taught what can and will happen to them if they use their weapon when there was another way around it

can you say the same for the wack jobs?

they simply dont care take the gun they will find another way....

or they will be the only ones that have a gun because they didn't go thru the normal checks to have one. even the ones we have in place now to purchase a hand gun will never stop a person that is determined

just my opinion

sara

I agree that a firearm can be a means for protection and I'm in favor of responsible ownership as well as reasonable gun laws like the ones I mentioned. Our gun laws should be shaped with the intent of public safety while still allowing law-abiding citizens the right to carry a firearm.

Jared Loughner had a high capacity magazine (about 31 bullets) that allowed for him to indiscriminantly fire off 31 rounds in a matter of seconds. It was only then when he ran out of bullets and was attempting to reload that he was stopped. There is rhyme or reason why the average citizen should have access to that kind firepower. We need to ban the manufacturing of high capacity magazines.

Sure. Or, you know, lawn furniture.

If we can guns, the bad guys will just kill us by bashing us to death with lawn chairs.

lawn darts....

instead of buying one, they can buy 3 10 rounders! great idea for the magazine makers!

Ok. Hey, you gun nuts say it doesn't matter the magazine size so then you shouldn't have problem if we go back to banning the manufacturing of high capacity magazines. Problem solved.

Well first they have to make you horizontal by hitting you (repeatedly, for hours and hours) with a lawn chair.

And then, they will poke you in the eye with lawn darts.

actually, just one will kill a person. that's why they were banned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawn_darts

it won't make a difference to me - the largest magazine i have is a 20 rounder for the ar. so what gun nuts are you talking about?

I like my idea of hitting someone with a lawn chair for hours better. It's more comical.

got a sadistic streak to ya, eh? you must work in an it department somewhere :hehe:

Actually, I wonder how long it would take. Assuming the target doesn't hit back (an unrealistic and simplifying assumption but if physics text books can do it, so can I!), how many times do I have to hit a man with a lawn chair (assume the cheapest, lightest made in china model you've seen) before he is disabled?

i'd say the chair would give out first. sounds like a good mythbusters episode.
