I worked in the U.S for a short period of time in 2003 and 2004. I think the company i worked for got a SSN for me, im guessing they must have for me to have been legal to work. i never recieved that number but if i go down to an office will i be able to obtain it?

www.ssa.gov is the Social Security website. Once you have a number it is your forever so they will have it on record. If you have your old visa they should be able to pull it up. You will have to fill out form SS-5. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.html

They will be able to get you all set up.

You would have had to file out an SSN application (Form SS-5), so do you recall doing that? A company couldn't have applied for you and you would have had to apply in person. An original SSN applications for an adult can't be mailed in or taken to an SSA office by a third party.

If you were assigned an SSN it can be obtained at any SSA office. Just take a photo ID and you will need to provide the name that you assume would be on the record, your date and place of birth and parent's names. If you were assigned an SSN you can request an SSN Verification Printout to give you some proof until you can be issued a replacement card.

PS. I am assuming you are in the US right now. If you are not then everything I said is wrong. :-)
