Bond as part of the I-134

A quick question (I hope).

I'm in the final stages of completing my K-1 visa application through the London Embassy. The only thing we have left to go is the I-134 (due to a mix-up, we didn't complete it PRIOR to the interview).

We've just sent the form and the evidence (a folder's worth!) to the London Embassy. There is mention of providing a bond to prove that I would not be a public charge in the US.

Has anyone had to pay this? If so, how much was it and why did they ask?

Not sure about any additional 'Bond' fee associated with the I-134.

It's my understanding that the signatures on the I-134 mean that the document is legally binding. The I-134 is providing documentation that shows that your Fiancee (and any co-sponsors submitting I-134's as well) earn enough money to ensure that you do not become a public charge once you arrive in the US.

I have not heard about a Bond.

Just evidence that your sponsor is employed and makes 125% poverty line or more.

Letter from employer, tax returns, pay stubs, letter from banks where deposits are.

I would contact the consulate to ask if they will accept the I-864 in place of the I-134. The I-864 requires less documantation, Just copies of past 1-3 years tax returns, and copies of W2.

London does not accept that I-864 in place of the I-134.

You will however complete the I-864 to accompany your AOS application once you are married.

I saw that statement on the form but I don't think they ever make people get a bond. At last I've never heard about it. I did put on my cover letter that I was willing and able to get a bond for my fiance if I was asked to do so!!
