You realize that if you speak bad about Dr. Pepper we kick you out of Texas.

I drink actual "Dr. Pepper" when I can. The "real" Dr. Pepper though. Right out of Dublin, Tx.

It's not as bad as white rice or potatoes but anything high in sugar isn't that healthy. It ramps up the glycemic index. Unless you are exercising to burn it off right away it's going to turn into fat.

Additionally, there are nutrient deficits when you eat a higher fruit to veggie ratio. Fruits can't provide all the minerals and b vitamins that veggies do. They also will give you more fiber. And Jenn makes a good point about frozen veggies- they can sometimes be cheaper, and higher in nutrients- they're usually frozen at the peak of freshness, so they don't lose a bunch of nutrients in transport and sitting under the grocery store misters for who knows how long.

Yep. The process that is now used - flash freezing, really keeps them fresh. We can't seem to keep them in the freezer too long though. I've had to throw out some frozen broccoli that was in the freezer for a couple of months. There are some vegetables that have a naturally longer shelf life, like cabbage, when it is uncut, it will last for weeks in the fridge. I love cabbage.

Putting words in others' mouths? How so?

I didn't blame the evils of society on your conversation only pointed out that you're focused on how to throw money away on an exponentially worsening problem.

How so? How about the bolded? Please tell me how I am anything of the sort.

OK... I understand you now. You're one of those people who just likes to disagree. You have fun with that. I'm moving on.

I didn't say eat no fruit, only that the sugar content means that you shouldn't eat a lot of it. It's promoted as a snack food because the alternatives people eat are worse for you: cakes, sweets, potato chips etc.

You said that fruit was "unhealthy", which is false. Of course, as with anything, it should be part of a balanced diet. Unless you're on a weight loss plan, there is no reason to frown on fruit, sugar content notwithstanding.

You do realise that's the same rationale that mcdonalds use. You can say deep fried butter is healthy if eaten as part of a balanced diet.

I eat a balanced diet as far as I can. I avoid foods high in saturated fat, salt and sugar. Fruit is high in sugar, ergo it is unhealthy. It's not a particularly radical opinion to be honest, a lot of nutritionists say the same thing.

So now fruit is being compared to deep fried butter?

You do realize there are different types of sugar, not to mention the fiber content in fruit that aids in the processing of the sugar? Not to mention that not all fruits are created equal, for examples bananas are much more nutrient rich than grapes. The sweeping statement that fruit is unhealthy with no qualification is a radical opinion. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here.

Look, i realise that these boards frequently bring out the worst in people, but there's no need to take things quite so literally or personally.

No, fruit isn't not comparable to deep fried butter, only that the term "as part of a balanced diet" is used to promote nearly everything.

No I didn't offer a substantiated medical research paper to support my opinion. But general nutritional advice is to limit consumption of foods high in saturated fat, salt and sugar. Yes there are different types of sugar, but for purposes of weight control it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Obviously you're going to be better off eating and apple than you are a bag of candy, but so what?

Alright then, I'll know now not to take what you say literally anymore. And personally? Well, not sure why you think I'm taking your fruit-hating personally - am I not allowed to disagree with you?

And I'll take that this is the "worst in me" as a compliment, I guess. I don't see where I've been quite so disagreeable, other than the fact that I'm not agreeing.
