Basically between legitimate points you slag off Americans for the fun of it, either to bait people or because you really hate them and maybe yourself as a result?

Let's not make this about me. I am alternately accused of hating myself and loving myself too much so possibly the truth lies in the middle which would make me....normal ?

I slag off right wingers and people who don't care about children living or dying. When those people happen to be Americans, it is purely incidental. I have plenty of vitriol for the same types in Britain and it isn't because they are British. Let's replace nationalistic paranoia with some reasoned argument

Now what's this about me making legitimate points ? Can we talk about those rather than me ? Talking about me is no fun for me as I am invited to put a 9mm pistol in my mouth and shoot myself through the head and accused of being a drunk - I would rather talk about the issues if anyone is interested in doing that ?

And of course they have more legitimacy than you, their ancestors were always here in America! I do understand why you get under their skin, it is very irritating to have someone poke neat little holes in these big over-inflated ideas that they have all convinced each other are correct. In reality, as you are well aware, they represent only one of many viewpoints within this country. I think most liberals tend to avoid these types of forums but there are a few of us here.

No offense taken! We all have unique viewpoints and ways of expressing them. For my part I know that certain kinds of posts get a reaction from me where I can be a bit confrontational as well. I don't agree with Alan on everything but I appreciate his viewpoint and his willingness to be out there with it in spite of a lot of negative feedback! As to labels, well, I guess I am a liberal on many issues but certainly not all. I think it is unfortunate that we get divided up into supposedly homogenous groups of people when we are really all quite unique in our outlook on life's issues. I have always loved arguing politics and religion but most people consider those areas off limits. I am enjoying the give and take here!
