Untrue.

In 2008, the top 1 percent of tax returns paid 38.0 percent of all federal individual income taxes and earned 20.0 percent of adjusted gross income ...

Not just that, but 47% of American households do not pay one red penny in federal income taxes.

About 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability.

So, you were saying?

The word is 'adjusted'. People like me did the adjusting

AJ he doesn;t care about facts. He is in Atlanta drinking whiskey

Whisky actually - it was scotch. Whiskey is the Irish stuff.

The top bosses are with you in Atlanta at 3am drinking whiskey? Oh, this is getting WIERD and funny.

Won't be funny for you when you lose your job at 55 and you have 10 years to go to Medicare

Good luck with that

The problem is that the middle class is shrinking and if the current trends accelerate america will be nothing like the country we all grew up in!

The current trends have little to do with our already very progressive

tax system. You're not going to make the bottom 98% any richer by

sending the money you confiscate from the top 2% to Washington, DC.

The middle class is shrinking because we are losing the battle with

globalization. I'm not even sure we can stop the decline at this point;

perhaps our quality of life won't always increase.

How can you justify paying an American worker $50,000/year for something

that a Chinaman can do for $2,000/year? We can keep fighting this battle,

but eventually we will lose.

The US is moving away from 20th century manufacturing into 21st century

science-based technologies - bioengineering, genetic engineering,

software engineering - things the Chinaman cannot do (yet). Unfortunately,

these disciplines don't necessarily produce jobs in large numbers, and

America's workforce is ill-prepared for the knowledge economy.

Why did you bother becoming naturalised when you constantly spout this #######?

Because it's true - does that still count for anything ? It's in your own best interests to point this out you know.

I believe that a fairer society is best for Americans and I want to promote that

That makes me a better American than those who want it as it is and don't want to improve it

All you can see is that any change is a criticism of the status quo and Conservatives cant stand change and take it as a personal criticism

Think about it - I care passionately that Americans wake up and do what is necessary for them to be safer and happier

- only in America could that be seen as anti-American.

It's like telling a 500 lb person they need to lose weight and being told that I hate them. It's not true.

If energy skyrockets, it will probably put globalisation in the freezer.

Which makes it especially unfortunate that higher education is getting less public funding. The future will not be bright for america's children if we don't get our priorities adjusted!

I don't disagree with your opinion, but when you constantly use the Yank term and lump everyone into one kettle it gets old quick.

America's workforce is ill-prepared for the knowledge economy.

This is true.

Even most of the gentlemen I work with who are over 50 and have been with the company since they started their careers are unfit for work anywhere but at this company. They've made no attempt to keep up with technology, seem to have no desire and drive at all, and can muster only feelings of resentment when the company announces plans to RIF and reorganize (as they did, yet again, on Friday). I made the off hand comment to my cube neighbor (he's a year away from getting the company pension) that he should start working on his resume and his response was almost indignant - why should I? I worked hard, they have no right to treat me like this! Plain and simple, a lot of our workforce feels entitled, even a lot of the well off.

Wow, you make it sound so sinister when you put it like that. Unfortunately for you, you're not surrounded by people who think you know what you're talking about.

Fortunately for me I do know what I am talking about and you have it all to come and will find out the hard way in life.

You will have forgotten this conversation by then so don't worry. Did you really think T Boone Pickens wanted you to have a better job ?

It could be true, depending on your choice of language and tone.

If energy skyrockets, it will probably put globalisation in the freezer.

Why?

I agree that it's very unfortunate. If I had to choose between universal healthcare

and universal access to higher education, I'd definitely choose the latter.

Between community colleges and state universities, we do well there. Where we lack is in elementary, middle and high school. Too many of our kids are simply unready for a rigorous college education.

Well I will tell you what - you can call me a Limey. You can call me a bloody Limey. As much as you want.

Now that is fair isn't it ?

Anyway I am an American now and the 'nwords' call each other 'nword' so we can call each other yanks. Is that ok yank ?
