How so? I don't understand. These items are (I assume) commercially mass manufactured and not "one of a kind" collector items? If so, how is Alan saying he owns a "A CZ 5.65mm Target Rifle" different from me saying I own a "Bionaire BUL8000 Warm and Cool mist humidifier"?

It isn't. I didn't say it made sense. Why not say "I make $55,000 per year"? No harm done but it is kind of a privacy issue. Just sayin'. Not passing judgement. But I do have more guns in my desk alone.

One of the things that has always been pushed for is that the names of people having concealed carry licenses be witheld from release as public records, central registration of firearms is opposed because it is not wanted for the government to know where the guns are and who has them. With all the effort to keep the ownership of firearms private...it is considered a bit uncouth to blurt out that "I have this, I have that" Not that it really makes any difference. It is just bad form:lol:

so you're saying alan needs to post pictures of himself posing with these weapons holding up a copy of the times showing todays date?

wearing a red g-string

This gun stuff is temporary and is in contrast to social progress in the US generally. It has always been choppy and even the repeal of slavery wasn't easy and took the deaths of 600,000 Americans to settle it

More Americans have been killed by other Americans in political battles than by any other nationality

The gun question is similarly contentious and reform will be drawn out and difficult

But the direction of civilization is one way. Accepting shootings and deaths and assassinations as 'just part of life here' is not civilization and it will change.

Obama can't even clip 7 rounds off my extended mag right now and probably wont do it in his next 4 years either - but progress, and gun controls are progress, and is unstoppable in the long term.

Slavery wasn't seen as a problem and had much support - it passed into history. History has many lessons.

I am having a great time with my guns and a threat to that is a criminal with a gun.

Rather than gunfight him, I want to disarm him first. (It's only me that thinks that is sensible)

Imagine some tattooed drunk in a trailer and him and his white trash hooker beat each other up every night. They do drugs. He has no convictions and he is not certified mentally ill. Everyone on the trailer park is scared of him as he is always threatening and is sometimes he goes out at midnight naked and screams at the moon

In England - no gun for him

In the USA - can't stop him getting an AR-15 and 50 x 30 round mags full of hollow points

Your kid is playing ball in the park and kicks it and it hits this guy in the head while he is walking along drunk and high and armed. Stick your fancy constitution and pre-emption ra-ra - at that stage you don't want this guy to have a GUN...

Now, be responsible and lay your dogma and political stuff down and help a nine year old American to survive this encounter

Don't say make the nine year old carry a bloody gun while he is playing soccer !

In other words. You lose.

I think there is a good chance that the future will see a restoration of a much more progressive income tax

You do realize that the middle class is where the big bucks are, not the top 2%?

According to the CBO, the cost of extending the Bush tax cuts for

  • those who make over $200k ($250k couples) = $700 billion
  • everyone else = $3 trillion

Total cost: $3.7 trillion

The problem is that the middle class is shrinking and if the current trends accelerate america will be nothing like the country we all grew up in!

The solution to that is simple. Redefine middle class and voila!

After all, the top 2% can never be bigger than the top 2%. That is the beauty of using that kind of language.

That's because rich folk legally avoid taxes because they work on it

That way they get the MAJORITY of the national income and pay fewer taxes

Meanwhile a good chunk of the middle class vote for them to keep doing that as they hope to get some crumbs from the rich man's table - as in trickle down

trickle schmickle the rich guys are keeping it and the middle class who fawn after them will end up broke and sick with no safety net

For 20 years it was my job to have a group of 28 good sized companies avoid tax - I know how to do it and it's easy when you know how

You yanks are such suckers thinking the rich have your interests at heart. I know how the very top bosses talk at 3am when the whisky hits them because I have been with them in Atlanta - and you 'middle class' are less use to them than dandruff on their dinner jacket

Wage slaves, used people

Untrue.

In 2008, the top 1 percent of tax returns paid 38.0 percent of all federal individual income taxes and earned 20.0 percent of adjusted gross income ...

Not just that, but 47% of American households do not pay one red penny in federal income taxes.

About 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability.

So, you were saying?
