'Swaggering braggarts' is a pejorative term in every other society - why is it a badge of success in the US ? Here a woman can say " Look at my teeth - they so white and they are the best". In every other country that is unacceptable so it's a cultural difference I guess and they are the hardest to change. It would be like saying to an Englishman that he was speaking quietly and why doesn't he shout and bawl all the time so he sounds like he means what he is saying. He simply could not do it - he couldn't make the adjustment

English is a different style, but not to be underestimated as so many have done - particularly in Germany.

I was doubtful when I first came to America and came up against the right wing who make so much noise. It was like arriving in Mussolini's Italy but with a lower quality of food. Since then, I have learned that the majority of Americans are progressives and I was in the majority with both houses of Congress and the President until very recently - and shall be again no doubt. Also the history of America since 1860 is one way - progressive liberal.

Let all immigrants on VJ learn that lesson and not be dismayed by the grisly right wing
