Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

I once told a Neddy-lander that his language was so close to German - he went nuts and said there was no resemblance.

Cultural you see - it's hard wired

It's like telling a Frenchman that it's wrong to get out of your car and take a pee at the side of the road in full view of everyone - he simply cannot see there is anything wrong with that

So it is with Americans and guns

I speak both and the sound of German in relation to Dutch is ( IMO) very different, although lingustically ( is that even a word?) speaking...I think both are classed as "Germanic'.

There is a huge similarity between Dutch and the [strong] North East England accent.

Ugh-the French as long as they pee on their own Michelins in their own country-fine with me.

Unfortunately my genes are not pure North East and have been infected with Welsh and Irish Celtic stuff which cannot be selectively identified and killed. I hate harps and Irish dancing.

I speak dialect from Yorkshire (my accent is standard english) - an experiment was held where farmers from the Friesian Islands were brought together with North Yorkshire farmers speaking tyke - and they were able to converse !

Most of our slang is Norse or Icelandic and the rest is Arabic /Indian brought back from the Empire

It's amazing that the American culture, <deleted>, has been able to emerge as distinct as it has in so short a time, but it has and it is as hard wired as my own and therefore nothing that can be reasoned with.

It would be like reasoning with a cat and telling it not to sleep so much

When in Rome, do as the Romans - so the answer is - buy a big gun and disembowel anyone who disagrees with you and the poor and weak and old and sick can starve coz it's tough beans. It ironic that in the country that disbelieves Darwin the most, Darwinism rules.

Had to turn the last one off - they were using the British National Anthem as background music

'My country tizzer flea' or something.

.

Yeah, we borrowed a few things from Mother England, but thankfully, not boiled mutton, or warm beer.

Do you know the original words to the US anthem? I hear the tune was based on an old British drinking song.

When I was hanging round the singles bars I was used to slurp on one of those and take the other home

What is it with Americans that they cannot accept that there is anything better in any aspect of life outside the US and they have to be BEST in everything ? It really gets up the noses of the populations all round the world and is the main fuel for anti-Americanism. Why can't Americans admit that some things are better in the their country and some things are WORSE.

Why can't YOU stop bashing the US for one minute and admire the things that

ARE better here instead of constantly going on about how stupid and ignorant

and now apparently poor everyone is?

What, you thought there was only one Boo Yah in the world? Cockroaches hide well and you may catch a glimpse of only one at a time but... they're everywhere.
