And make him a martyr like they made that Waco idiot, David Koresh? No, pass a law like they did, arrest him when he breaks it and prosecute and sentence to the maximum allowed!

That was one of the biggest mishandles of a situation in US history. Denying so is saying that the government acted perfectly in every way in that situation. Those that were in charge and those that did what they did are very much responsible for the lives lost in Waco...... Not that the feds had any business there to begin with. Just as they had no business at the South Texas polygamist compound a couple of years ago....

Hostile? Hardly. If I were hostile, I'd be locked and loaded. Quite the contrary. I believe in the power of people who aren't corruptible by lobbyists, etc. to get what they want. Perhaps foolish to think it's possible, but hey, there are some out there that still believe in a government with honest people.

I will call out the Feds though when they overstep their bounds. If you know anything about Waco, the ATF had a complete makeover after the disaster that was.

You can probably make a strong argument on both of those cases; except for the way young girls were forced into marriages at the polygamist camp. On that point, I think something had to be done.

Well, while today's government frowns upon what's happening there and the leader of the thing is definitely off his rocker, the main reason why they went into the place had nothing to do with the Children. They had been looking for any excuse for years to get in there because they wanted the land for the oil resources underneath it.... Needless to say while they removed some children, there wasn't enough evidence to sustain truly closing things down like they wanted to.

Today's society has a problem with 14 year old girls marrying middle aged men. Granted this wasn't the case going back a little over a century ago, but times change and people change as well as morality. The problem here is, is everyone expects every other person to conform with them, and when they don't, they make laws and create criminals out of people who are just living their lives. That's the problem I have. They may be a bunch of weirdos and not my cup of tea, but these people were living their lives peacefully and not bothering anyone else...

I think we're mostly in agreement on this one. Even if what they're doing is strange to most of us, I don't really think I want the gov't regulating what's strange. What was happening to the kids is a different matter.

What was happening to the kids was not just 'different' it was a very big problem and it had to be stopped! Those girls are people too, citizens with rights at least as valid as any 2A rights you get so worked up about! Koresh was a criminal and had to be stopped and apprehended. It was poorly handled but that is easy to say in retrospect.

The Branch Davidians were ready for the immediate end times, and had tons of ammunition and weaponry stored up, including anti-tank devices. When ATF came in they opened fire. Recognizing law enforcement made plenty of mistakes hardly clears the BD's.

You misunderstood what I meant. I'm saying you can make the argument to ignore the "religious" behavior of the group. However, when it comes to the kids; that's different. What was being done to them was wrong and needed to be stopped. We're actually in agreement here.
