The mountains are made one way or the other - removing it from the website doesn't remove it from memory and doesn't turn back time to where it never happened. The decision to be made, then, is whether the imagery is indeed innocent and defensible in which case you stand by it and leave it where it is or whether it is inappropriate and indefensible in which case you remove it. Seems that we have arrived at the latter.

The dude was a nut and nothing but a nut. But you know as well as I do that some people will try to make connections where there are none. The image in question was removed because it wasn't worth the time and effort to defend it or to not give the LWN's more reason to try and link her to this crazy fool. You know that but you still insist on trying to make some sort of link even though you are carful not to come right out and say it. With all due respect, removing the image did not take its impact off the table. What took the impact off the table (for now) is the brief glimpse we've had into his worldview via his YouTube page.

The image itself is still incendiary and revolting. And Palin may have taken it off her page, but it is now all over the Internet. The next 'nut' could very well be motivated by it, who knows?

That is my stance. My point, that seems to be missed, is he didn't seem to be motivated by partisan politics but rather he was motivated by a sick mind. I was pointing out that the assumtion he was a right winger and therefore motivated by Palin was wrong.

And I will repeat it again, I wasn't trying to label him as anything but a nut. My statement that he seems to be more left wing rather than right was an attempt, albeit a failed one it seems, to show that he wasn't motivated by partisanship but by his own sick thoughts.
