Hi, I'm new here. My husband is waiting for his NVC case to be closed.

I noticed that many people state the POE and location. Will the POE be assigned to you? I'm a resident of Washington, so will he have to arrive in Seattle?

I am temporarily living out of state finishing my education. But we want to end up living in Seattle. I will only be on the east coast for a few more months, and he should have his interview in the next few weeks as far as we can tell.

Once he gets his visa, can he travel and work freely in the USA, or must it be in a certain location in the beginning?

Also, have any of you updated your address throughout this process? Was it a hassle or easy to do? Do you think it's better to change it now or wait until he's been approved and has the visa in his hand? Would it be terrible to not change it all? We may be living in another location but just a few weeks (months at most), but obviously I don't want anything to go wrong! My parents would keep me up to date with any mailings, so I'm not worried about that at all.

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

No POE isn't assigned. It means port of entry he can enter the usa at any airport he choose to use. He can work, travel... When he gets his status. He can update his address at the US Airport when he arrives.

The POE will be the first airport he arrives at that has an immigration checkpoint. Since he is coming on a CR-1/IR-1 yes he can work as soon as he gets here. From what I have been told, you can call in with your change of address. Quick and simple. I believe, and someone can correct me If I am worng..as long as his address is updated to where he is working, you should be fine.

The POE will generally be the first point he arrives in the US. Occasionally, like in my case, I cleared customs and immigration in a pre-clearance site in Toronto so by the time I arrived in the US, I was already a PR - no waiting in lines, no delay to meet my husband. It was great

Good luck

You current US address can be confirmed/updated at POE. If it changes after that the beneficiary needs to submit the AR-11 and the petitioner (sponsor) needs to submit the I-865.

However surely if you are only temporarily "living" on the East Coast, an address change would not be needed, as the official address would be the one in Washington?

Otherwise it will require a change again in a few weeks/months time!
