maybe he keeps his big blaster on top of his pillow and sleeps on that! :secret:

I keep my big blaster in my pants. "This is my rifle, this is my gun."

I love the game of basketball. I love playing it, coaching or just watching the game played. I also know a great deal about the game. But may God rain down on me with basketballs if I ever think that because other people aren't into basketball like me, that they can't or shouldn't talk about basketball. In fact, if some basketball geek started rambling off to me the exact specs on official court size, I'd think he's either autistic or he suffers from lack of self esteem.

If basketball was a constitutional right I'd expect everyone to have a general knowledge of it.

From the things I read on here and elsewhere, for some people gun ownership is an obsession, why else would someone use all kinds of absurd rationals to justify owning a gun? Statistically, being involved in a criminally inspired shooting is what one would call a very, very long shot indeed and being armed just in case is irrational.

Liberty is absurd?

Exercising constitutional rights is irrational?

One's life is the ultimate most precious thing in this world and these individuals want to preserve that precious life of theirs to the fullest, which is why they are all also health nuts, run marathons, abhor smoking and alcohol, and reserve the precious bodily fluids by denying their spouses sex.

Those of us from the RUB forum actually like having sex with our wives. We don't even need to fantasize about other women or anything.

As for running marathons, smoking, etc., all of those are dangerous activities. Guns are perfectly safe.

Owning a gun isn't liberty. That's the biggest fallacy of all.

So, what is liberty?

2 hotties at the same time and not having to pay for it.

That's only when you're on liberty in Australia.

Are you insured against home theft, fire, accidental death and dismemberment, etc?

Dismemberment?

Perhaps I should go to the Doctor and insist they give me chemotherapy? After all, there's a good chance I'll develop cancer sooner or later, a far better chance of that than being involved in a violent crime.

So, what is liberty?

Do you seriously think that being free has anything at all to do with owning a gun? Extraordinary.

Believing you are only ever safe when you carry a gun is completely irrational.

So what? We have the right, it has been affirmed, it is being reinforced. There will be no new restrictions on our rights.

I think it boils down to control. Having a gun allows the user to believe he now can control perceived threats and preserve his own safety. It also may allow the twisted mind to indulge the idea that he now also controls whether other people can continue enjoying life! Having this control means having power! In a society that has taken away many peoples perception of having control of many facets of their own lives this power and control is hard to resist!

I happen to agree.

I don't really have any issue with those people who want to own guns for sport, but I do have a problem with the argument that gun ownership conveys the owner with a bubble of safety and that in this modern world gun ownership is essential for maintaining freedom from government tyranny. Both ideas are senseless and using them to justify gun ownership makes me question the rationality of the gun owner. Bit of a teaser really.

I wonder how people can claim to be free when they have no means to protect their freedom.

I agree. You can be plenty safe without a gun because other people - with guns - have ensured your safety.

Amen! Are you finally starting to get it?

So if I want to own an AK-47 for sport, that's OK?

I have always 'gotten' that Slim! The problem is that feeling of power and control may be more illusion than real and may come at a price! But I do acknowledge that for some thoughtful individuals of which I hope you are one, having a weapon may enhance their security to some extent. For many others having weapons in their homes makes them and their loved ones substantially less safe! And to society as a whole, guns come with a terrible price tag!

i personally feel a lot safer having one - as 911 will get me a cop in about 30-45 minutes. things may be different where you live, but that's the reality of where i live.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
