Leave off resume or include new position?

Hi Folks,

Just started a job with Schwan’s in August and pretty well hate the hours ( Apparently so do a lot of people as they have an UNBELIEVABLE turnover ratio)…I leave for work at 8 am and finish at 10 pm!. It was suppose to be split shift stuff but doesn't look like that will happpen for a looong time...The rest of it isn’t too bad but with a newborn this just isn’t going to work out.

I have a problem thus….I last worked in April in Canada before that and think it would be a good thing to have my first US company on there but will probably encounter some "August? Leaving so soon??"..These guys work on straight commission and it takes awhile to build routes.like 6 months to a year and 100 percent commission!..So we have guys there a couple months who are selling 500.00 for 13 hours work…at about 10 per cent commission that is $50.00 for 13 hours LOL…I’m not kidding…So to make a short story long…and knowing it is easier to find a job when you have one…Do I put August and the company and starting sending out resumes or just leave it off to avoid “your leaving already?.??”...syndrome

I have 5 years at other positions by the way…so I'm not a job hopper.Thanks for the input folks… Appreciate it...

I would include it and explain that you have a newborn child and the hours are not working out to be what you had hoped they would be. It's a pretty legitimate reason to be changing jobs, and better to have something US based rather than being in the initial "I have no experience over here" category again.

That would be my thoughts.

If you have not actually quit the Schwan job while you are sending out your resumes, why not put the current job with its start date and then 'to present' which shows you are still employed and are looking to change employment. You can include in your covering letter that, as a parent of a newborn, the 15 hour work days and low rate of commission are just not practical, and you are looking for something more viable. If you have already left your employment then just put down August and explain why in your covering letter. Good luck.

Oh Kev, I feel for ya working for Schwans. My ex did that for about 5 weeks. Pretty awful in my opinion.

Wes is also working at a job right now that isn't great. His current shift is 4:30 in the evening till 1 am. And I'm having to fetch him as he doesn't drive. He says its a start. Bless him.

I don't think any employer would find your explanation for leaving them implausible. I will offer this though....it might look a bit better if you stick with it as long as you can stand it. It shows guts and that you were trying to support your family, and willing to do just about anything to find a foothold over here.

Hey thanks for the replies folks...well...I still work there..my second week today..and it is pretty depressing :( ..one of those jobs that just isn't going to work out anyway you slice it...I guess I'll have to go with the august to present but since I leave at 8 am for work and come home at 11 pm...interviewing may come down to leaving just to fit them in...
