You do not need a passport to travel within canada

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

you don't need a passport to fly within canada. driver's license works just fine.

here's something from air canada's website that may help for you. you can check with whichever airline you decide to fly before booking ticket.

Thank you for all of your responses. I think I will write to them and explain the situation in advance. Our interview is on Friday, and we will be in Montreal till Sunday afternoon, so I am now very concerned whether or not I will receive it even next day, being it will be a Saturday and all. Mailing the passport after the trip is definitely an option to consider.

Thank you again, I appreciate the input very much.

Hmm. It looks as if I'm going to need to request our own passports back before we leave Montreal. My daughter doesn't have any ID, with or without a photo, unless you include her care card.

Um, her birth certificate was mailed to NVC a month ago with her IV package. It will be returned at the interview I suppose. In the meantime, I could order another birth certificate and get a Nexus card for her since the Nexus card includes a photo.

I should have said that differently, meant to say that if you sent in her birth certificate, they will give it to you at the interview and you could use that as Id for the flight home.( I would make sure to remind them at the interview as sometimes they send it in the poe packet if they forget to give it on the interview day) No need to order a new one unless you want to.

:)

Oh, I see. Thanks for pointing that out. I had assumed everything would be enclosed in the POE packet. I'll be sure to ask for it.

To the OP, thanks for asking this as I was wondering the same thing this a.m. We have our interview on Feb 24th and planned on staying in MTL for a couple of days after since I've never been.

So..maybe I'll get lucky and get my Visa the same or next day too!

That's our plan..we're gonna stay two or three extra days. Before we have to drive back, cross POE..all that good stuff. We didn't get a chance to have a honeymoon, except we're broke. So, we'll have a Warm UP honeymoon.

What interview is this? If it is for the citizenship interview, then you can request after taking your oath a expediated passport if you have proof of the airline ticket and such. Many oath ceremonies will have a passport contact there (with a large line of people applying at the oath), or you might be able to get it expediated from the post office...
