Should my fiance come to my interview?

My American fiance and I both live together in Sydney. My interview is on Tuesday, and we're still undecided on whether or not he should come with me to my interview?

If he comes, will he be interviewed as well? Or will he just have to sit and wait for me? Does it make a difference if he comes? We think it would probably look good but we know it's not necessary.

Also, I don't have an engagement ring yet because we've been waiting to move to the US so his mother can give him a stone that she wants me to have. Do you think it matters that I don't have one?

They will not care about the ring.. And having your fiance around is optional, but if he's already there, then why not? My fiance was present and it certainly helped me relieve some pressure and I think I would've been more nervous if he wasn't present. It will be the consulate's choice to let him in during the interview or not, but in most cases they are more than welcome to attend. It also helps validate your relationship, in a way. But it is not necessary, it will not guarantee anything and I'm pretty sure with or without him you will be okay, as long as you have the complete documents to back you up.. :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Check the embassy's webiste, as requirement will vary. Some embassis, like Moscow, will not even let him into the waiting room with you, yet others require him to attend the interview with you.

From what I have gathered here (and I am somewhat the newbie) the consulate here in Sydney is somewhat easy going. Best of luck to you both, am sure you'll be just fine :)

Hopefully I'll be in your exact place in the near future, although I wont have the option of having my fiancee with me as she has to stay in Ohio because of her daughters health needs.

May I ask which of the doctors listed you used for the medical and what the cost was if thats not too personal a question? feel free to email me at beattiew@y7mail.com if you dont want to post it here :)

Regards,

Wayne.
