Temporary Health Plans for Mother-in-Law

My mother-in-law was granted a B-2 visitor's visa. She will arrive in the U.S. in less than two weeks. She'll stay until the end of March. I want to make sure that she's covered by insurance for catastrophic health events at least, and for more routine health events if possible.

What temporary health plans for foreign visitors are:

1) Available for someone in her situation;

2) Worth purchasing; and

3) Not too expensive?

Your suggestion will be appreciated, and especially if you have had recent personal experience with the purchase of such a plan for someone. Many thanks, si man.

In Canada, Canadian tourists about to enter the US on a trip can purchase short-term travel insurance, most commonly from Canadian Blue Cross, at pretty much any duty-free store. The insurance is offered by a Canadian insurance company, costs roughly a dollar per day, and covers stabilization and transportation back to Canada.

I haven't the foggiest idea if any Ecuadorian insurance companies offer a similar product, but they'd be the ones to contact about it.

When my MIL was here, we purchased a bare bones plan through these guys: http://www.imglobal.com/index.aspx

I can't comment on their claims-paying as we never had to file a claim.
