I can't name specific individuals but I think it is pretty common knowledge that the Republican party succeeded in converting southern democrats who were anti civil rights. That is why the South is dominated by "Red" states.

So you think the Democrats gave up on winning the south?

Which party nominated these post-1964 southerners for their presidential tickets: Jimmy Carter, Lloyd Bentsen, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John Edwards.

No and Democrat Party. No where has it been said that the Democrat Party has vanished from the South just that it is no longer the majority party.

Look, I am not here to try and get you to agree with me. You can choose to believe or disbelieve that Reagan and other Republican presidential candidates used the Southern strategy in their campaigns. I didn't vote for Reagan and never liked him and still don't so I sure as hell am not going to review his campaign speeches for you. I know what I saw and experienced while growing up. I am sure my perception of what happened is different than yours so I will leave at that. I only posted in this thread because of the remark from Amby about whether there were scholarships for white people.
