Hello guys, I have a question from my fiend regarding to the sponsoring. He is sponsoring for his parents and he does not have enough income since he got laid off last 6 months. His sister is an international student. She graduated and is currently working for a company. She has enough income to help him. So, he just wonder that Can she be a joint-sponsor (co-sponsor) even she is not a us citizen or permanent resident (green card holder)? Please let me know if you guys know the answer so that I can tell him as soon as possible, because he stuck on the application now. Thank you.

Nope, I-864 for a joint sponsor requires being a US Domiciled US Citizen, or US Permanent Resident.

In order to file a petition for a parent, would have to be a US citizen, moving this topic to "Bringing Family members of US Citizens to USA".

ditto,

only US Citizens or residents can be joint sponsors or co-sponsors. they have to live here and pay taxes and show proof of of being citizens or residents. He'll have to find somebody else or wait until he makes enough income by himself.

tell him to read the instructions of the i864, the answer is there, who qualify and what documents they have to present with the form.

Hi Aleful, are you sure? He will have a trouble with sponsoring, because only his sister is willing to be co-sponsor (joint-sponsor), but she is not lawful permanent resident or us citizen. She is currently working in US after she graduates university as an international student. I need some more ideas before I tell him. I do not want to disappoint him. Do anyone else know this situation? Please give him advices. Thank so much!

ditto to all.

why don't you download and read it yourself? most of us all have gone through immigration process and needed the i864 or have filed one for someone.

www.uscis.gov/forms and download the i864 and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
