Can you recommend the most cheapest and easiest way?

What my fiance is doing is using the UK post. they have something set up online where you can transfer from a uk bank to any bank with no fees. i have a bank that doesn't charge fees for receiving (i'm not sure if bank of america charges for receiving money transfers.)

I use Xe Trade its simple and rates are best i have found, they take it directly from your uk account using chaps or bacs system and wire directly into your US Bank account www.xe.com and go to trading - xe trade

Hi guys,

Depends how much you're looking to transfer. Up to about £5000 your best bet is probably someone like XE Trade. Beyond that, HiFX, Moneycorp, Currencies Direct or Foreign Currency Direct are all good bets. I went with Foreign Currency Direct cos I got really personal service and they offered me the best rate. You can set up accounts with all of those companies for free.

Just using Barclays is highly unlikely to be the most cost-efficient way as most UK banks charge shocking fees and have even more shocking exchange rates, but it is worth asking.

Money Saving Expert (my financial bible in the UK...really need to find a US equivalent!!!) has a reallly good guide - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/foreign-currency-exchange

Hope this helps :)

Thank you so much everyone for your helpful responses!

I used the UK post office and the process was smooth. It just took 2 days and there were no fees. The exchange rate provided was way better than xe trade at that time i.e. 1.5388

once again thank you for your support
