Our case was completed at the NVC on Sept. 8th, 2010. From the different immigration websites I'd looked at I was hoping about 2 months to hear from the consulate. The first information we heard was 3 months from the consulate and the NVC. Then on the website, we heard 3 to 4 months. We are nearing the 4 month mark and the consulate last told us 4 or more months.

I'm about ready to start a pool on which month it will be.

Any one out there stuck in GZ limbo too?

I can't wait until I get to Guangzhou, my no good useless lawyer had the chance to file electronically skipped that, then he mailed in the AOS and the DS-230 back supposedly in mid November. I went to visit the wife in December and came home thought our case would be moving along. NOPE luckily I called the NVC and asked how is the case going? They said we are still waiting for your AOS & DS-230. UGH what? I called and emailed the idiot he said he was going to resend the forms fed-ex. I am pissed off 6 weeks and if I hadn't called how long would it have went? Unbelievable I don't think he ever sent them.

I did not file electronic. My computer, printer, and my computer skills are not reliable. I had to buy another printer/scanner, and then another computer recently. Still using the same old brain, a little anyway.

For China there are two diferent processes to choose from at NVC.

You can opt into an electronic process which saves months of time because you scan and send docs to NVC, and they then send case file to the consulate electronically.

Or you can do the older method using snail mail, which results in NVC shipping case file to consulate, where the case gets stuck in the customs delay.

hey Michael and Yi -

aiyo - why bother with Consulate, for status, unless DCF case?

Please review http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/

find the right office, and call them.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

We did start calling the DOS instead. Before I thought that the people it was going to make the most sense, plus I had a few question I wanted to ask, and I thought that they might be able to answer these questions the best...

Anyhow, We called them this morning, and got great news (from our perspective). The nice lady at the DOS told us our case is still in initial review... in other words Guangzhou has Yi's case !!! YAY!! It has been a LONG four months.

So it was four months, I hope other's fare better.

i hope you can understand -

this is 'normal' when going postal

and it is 'not' limbo.

Yer casefile is stuck in a China Customs Clearing House, until GUZ IV staffers are allowed to come get it.

There's a COPY of most of it, in SAFEFILE, but GUZ IV won't use that unless is some big stupid problem between NVC and GUZ IV.

It's not 'in limbo' at all.

IMO - going EP kills this 'dead zone time' - and it's so strong, so powerful, so life-changing -

that it's WORTH IT, always, to LEARN HOW TO USE THE COMPUTER, or hire a 15 year old to assist you with the casefile prep for NVC.

You feel that you've been in limbo, I get that - no worries there - I can relate - but

the CASEFILE is not in limbo - it's exactly where it's supposed to be, based on shipping method.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
