Hi Everyone, Well Marie and I are finally Husband and Wife-I am soooooooo happy. I am starting the petition today and hope to have it ready to send on Monday. So here comes the questions Guys and Gals :help::lol: I just dont want to mess anything up and have the process delayed. Its so hard to be apart from each other and I sure wouldnt want a simple little error on some form to keep us apart any longer than we have to be. Im sure you can all understand. You all have been such a big help in the past with the questions I had. What a good bunch of people. I am going to make sure that once Marie and I are through all this Visa stuff I am going to keep in touch and hopefully help others as well. If anyone has any info or advice they would wanna share with me I would appreciate it, maybe if their is new forms I might not be aware of, make sure you do "THIS" kinda stuff,etc..... So this is it everyone-the start of my VISA JOURNEY  God Bless and the best of luck to everyone in the forum- Gary

Congratulations on your marriage! Don't fill out any forms while still drinking champagne!

Seriously, the forms can be tricky, so give yourself plenty of time. Read the entire form OUT LOUD before beginning. Answer "none" or "n/a" instead of leaving blanks. Be careful of fillable PDFs that pre-fill answers that aren't appropriate. When you're finished, read everything OUT LOUD all over again. Then, have somebody else do the same to double check.

Good luck on your journey!

Hi,Well it only took about 1 hour to get my "certificate of legal capacity to marry" when we went to the U.S. Embassy in Manila. Some advice though, make sure you don't go on a American observed Holiday or a Philippine Holiday-they will be closed. Also make sure you go early in the morning because they close (the doors) at Noon if I remember right-maybe it was 1 o'clock or maybe it was 11 o'clock  . Whatever the case-GO EARLY! They dont actually close but they dont allow more people in for certain things-one of which is Legal Capacity forms. This is what happened to me. The first day we went they were closed because it was past noon-or 1 -I forget-anyway,it was too late-they weren't allowing more people in for the certificate. The next day we couldn't go because it was Martin Luther King Jr. Day. So it ended up being the following Monday that we went. Everything went fine-it was easy as pie. But another word of advice. Make sure you have plenty of time to get married. My visit was only for 2 weeks and because of the delay we had in retaining my certificate and because of the 10 day waiting period for your marriage license after you apply for it, we didn't have enough time for our wedding. So I had to return at a later date(which I stayed for 20 days) That was okay though-it gave us more time to make sure we were compatible (we are :D ) The marriage itself was relatively easy. Make sure your fiance also gets a form(I forget the name but the civil office can tell her what it is she needs) Its a form similar to your legal capacity to marry form, it states that she is not married to anyone else. I am almost positive Marie got hers from the NSO office in Massin. Its something you want to do right away because we didn't know nothing about it and you need it before you can even apply for your marriage license. So even if I could have gotten my legal capacity certificate right away we still wouldn't have been able to get married on my 1st visit because we both knew nothing about this form that she needed and it took her 2 weeks to get it. You might be able to get it right away at the NSO office in Manila though-I'm not sure so It would be best to check. Your fiance can get it at any NSO (National Statistics Office) though. Its just that the local office might take longer than the NSO in Manila. Again-I am not sure about the time frames. What I am sure about is that in all my readings about the requirements for a American to get married in the Philippines -nowhere did it say anything about this form she needed to apply for our license, so have your fiance do this right away in case their is delays. I also recommend that you stay there for the entire 21 days allowed on your visitors visa stamp you get when you enter the country just in case you have any delays. It also allows you to spend as much time as possible with your loved one. Oh yes-you will also need 4 sponsors at your wedding-2 women and 2 men I believe is whats required. They are sort of like witnesses. Whatever the case they need to be present at your civil wedding and they also need to sign the marriage certificate. I'm sure your fiance will know more about the sponsor requirements. Sorry for the big long answer but I thought "Great" my chance to help someone else on the forum instead of me always asking for help. This forum is really loaded with some real good people and some who know every possible detail imaginable. Anyway Good Luck and God Bless. I wish you two the best. Gary

I also forgot to add that make sure when you go to the Embassy you have your passport,Id and your Birth Certificate and proof of Divorce if you were previously married, Im not sure exactly what you need to prove divorce because I wasnt ever married in the past but Im sure some simple research or someone in the forum could help you if needed -See Ya

(L) Congratulations on your marriage. (L) Wishing you both long years of happiness ! (F)(F)(F)

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
