Come on, Stina. Let's not wish this guy over here. I'd much rather go to work than have this guy pay a visit....

alright alright...party pooper! Just kidding...but you don't see the magic of it though. :D They just can say it'll come, and then it really doesn't, but you still get a paid day off of work. :hehe:

I just heard there are three possible tracks, and one of them is over Tampa. Go Tampa!

 Just kidding...I think I'm going to get beat up. :innocent:

In school here, we have hurricane days instead of snow days. And almost every hurricane day became "fun day" when I was in high school, and was sunny outside with no rain, because the track would shift and miss us completely. But they had already canceled it so they couldn't change their mind the day of it. :P

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Well, from the pictures I saw tonight, Ernesto is dead for now. Some rain and that's that. They're even moving the Shuttle back to the launch pad. Despite Ernesto's path going over CC. Guess Florida got lucky, eh? Might just be the new residents in the state bring the state luck. We can be bribed into staying... :D

I was interning in Fort Lauderdale during 2004 and had a few close calls that year with hurricane paths.

For the 1st hurricane (think it was charlie) I was a bit scared as it was the first time i'd lived in FL during a hurricane. Plus my boss made me work till the day before it hit (I also had no car). So i had no choice but stay.

It ended up going way to the north of us so no problems.

After that we got hit by Francis (It was the size of Texas). We got tropical storm force winds and no power for 24+ hours - but was nothing bad.

Now when a hurricane is mentioned i think Hurricane + beer = hurricane party!

Finally that year we had hurricane Jeannie - tropical storm force winds again for us - went out side for some of it.

The main danger from hurricanes is flooding plus downed powerlines.

The best thing to do is keep supplies ready and follow all information given.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov is the Hurricane centers oficial site - best place for raw data.

Also check out outlooks abovestorm information for possible formation of tropical waves.

Another decent site is www.storm.herald.com - which is the same info as NHC but with fancy graphics plus computer model paths.

The computer model paths vary wildy so don't use them for planning.

Take my word for it, Reinhard, Ernesto is alive and well and NOW living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia! It is SHEETING out there at this very moment, forget "raining", the wind is a-blowing, the temperature has taken one crazy DIVE and they say the center of the storm won't hit us till after lunch! Scary cuz the wind is coming in what we call "down-drafts" and that scares the ####### outta me me cuz the last time that happened last year, the hurricane spun off TWENTY tornados across the state. :help:

We have a "hurricane day" from school here today, Stina, and it's definitely NOT turning out to be sunny, the schools made a good call. Damn they just started on Monday and already have a day to make up for.

Hubby's working 12 hour shift out in it today (so I'm anxious and worried about him) and depending on how much damage, trees down and flooding, he will probably be working the long weekend. He won't mind if he has to work on Monday tho hahaha ...TRIPLE TIME! :D

Will keep you posted.

Oh mannnnnn Ernesto's got a good hold on us now and has seemed to have picked up strength somewhere. Just 5 minutes ago I decided that it looked safe enough outside to go to the mailbox and check my mail. It had been too wicked looking out there before that to enable it. I have to walk down my driveway to the mailbox on the road...a stroll of about 200 yards each way. I got only about 10 yards when the wind suddenly picked up and my umbrella turned inside out and the skies opened up even more. I swear it was like someone took a big bucket of water and dumped it on me all at once, I was drenched and the wind just plastered my clothes on me. :help: Our herd decided it was a good time to head for the barn for shelter too - THAT'S when you know it's bad out there, the cows don't seek shelter unless it's REALLY bad. You can hear the wind whistling thru the gaps in this old house....brrrrrrrr My lilac trees ain't making it thru this one, I don't think. :crying:

Yeah, Ernesto gained a good punch after leaving the Sunshine State. The flooding in the Norfolk area, I think, was just ridiculous. Hope you guys get back to bau soon.

*Update from the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia*

Well, Ernesto got us pretty good. We just got our power back after losing it about 9:30 last night and there's still something like 200, 000+ people without electricity in surrounding areas. Only one of our two phone lines work (We can only get dialup here so we have 1 line just for the computers only) and I had to fiddle with the outside jacks just to get online...lol. And I was only able to get on the PC in the back room which is the old one. The storm is responsible for 4 deaths here since yesterday so far. It's still pretty windy out there and misting rather than raining this morning. I went out about an hour ago to survey the damage and its not half as bad as I was expecting, really. Many tree branches all over the place, a few trees down and the river has turned into rapids but not overflowed it's banks - I guess the drought we'd had the past few weeks was a blessing in disguise because the river had completely dried up so there was no water in it to begin with. Of course, we still have to watch for flooding because we are in the valley and have all that rain coming from the top of the mountains. Hubby has to work all weekend doing 12 hour shifts to clear the highways of debris.

I think all in all that we didn't fare too badly in comparison to how some others in the state were affected.

I took pics this morning but they are on the other computer and I'm too lazy to transfer them to a CD, upload them onto this computer and post them here...lol. As soon as the other phone line to the other PC is working I will share them I promise.
