Thank you both Janis and Jen for sharing your experiences, it was definitely very interesting to read them! Now that Ive read your posts it seems more than obvious that they would have all that info on their computers. And yes it is definitely better to be safe than sorry, so being prepared for anything is the way to go  It's funny though that neither of us has been questioned at all (meaning me and Josh) on our multiple visits - especially me of course. Id imagine that the POE officer would've said something when I told her I was just there for a vacation if she saw that I'm in the process of immigrating to the country. Maybe I just look so innocent  or maybe she was tired and didn't feel like giving anyone a third degree that day.

I'm really hoping I'll continue to be just as lucky when I next cross the border. It's going to be a 2-month visit this time so I'm going to prepare with a letter from my employer as well as a bank statement of sufficient funds to support myself and a copy of the whole I-129f package.

On another note, do you guys know what all this talk about a government shutdown is? And that possibly postponing the progress of all pending applications even further? Im thinking this is all just talk and won't have a real effect on K1's but who knows... I hope Im not just freaking myself out here for no reason :bonk:

If anything, it'll just add the long wait that we're all having to go through. From what I've been reading the only thing that'll go uninterupted would be the United States Postal Service. >_<

I have read that if a shut down that all visas and passport processing will be stopped. I don't think for long tho...many more important people (unlike us) need to renew passports after 10 years and if this is shut down then noone will be able to renew a passport which in turn is going to eventually affect tourism for both us and other countries. At least these are things I would think the government would not want to put off for to long. I should hope!! I dont want any more postponing. I'm tired of waiting and spending all kinds of money just traveling back and forth because they want to argue over where to cut cost. I personally think they should cut out some of their paycheck for not being able to do their job and make these decisions on time. Anyway, enough of the rant. lol Lets just cross our fingers and pray that they can make these decisions by the end of the day today if not the latest on Monday.

Hi guys :) since we are talking about crossing the borders while in the K1 process, I have a question too. I'll be visiting my hubby to be in May for 11 days, last time I was there was over the Christmas holidays and New Year's until January 9 for 3 1/2 weeks, before that I was there 6 weeks in September/October 2010 and before that two weeks in March 2010. Even on my third visit in December I got asked nothing, even though my last visit was less than 8 weeks prior, I didn't even get the "business or pleasure" question but I doubt I'll be as lucky again.

Binding ties that I will have are return ticket, certificate of enrollment at university, certificate of health insurance in Germany, and latest bank statement to show I can support myself and of course a cope of the NOA1. I am living with my mother so I don't have a lease agreement to show. Do you think that would be enough? I could also get a professor write a note for me that I am in the middle of writing my bachelor thesis and need to be back in order to finish my degree.

Also, when asked "business or pleausure" or "reason for visiting", would you go right out and say "visit my fiance"? Or just say vacation and if they ask further e.g. with who am I staying, say my fiance?

Getting nervous again, urgh. POE will be JFK, as the last two times..

I never right out and say my fiance. I always say "im visiting my boyfriend". The border DOES see we have pending Visa's, our American fiance's are also connected to us in the system when they even cross borders. We found that out when my fiance came to visit me a few weeks ago. The Canadian border mentioned my name to him and asked him about the K1. When i've come home i've never had to give them that info.

As for the lack of rental agreement, i wouldn't worry because i don't have one either but i have a letter from my employer along with business cards and pay stubs. I think the info you have that will be good enough. They have never asked to see my proof of ties any way. I fly to Denver next Friday so i can tell you how that goes. I wouldn't worry! Your prepared and you have all that you need.

Thanks you two!! Well I wouldn't really wanna say "my boyfriend" as that's a lie, he is more than that, obviously, but if I say vacation then that is true, at least partially  but I guess if they ask "business or pleasure" I say pleasure and then say fiance if they ask further. Before applying for the K1 I was always asked "reason for staying in the US" and I said visiting friends, and like I said, in December I didn't get a single questions about the reasons of my stay.

I'll just hope it's enough what I have, that I get a good-natured CO!
